Robert Nelson Signor Jr., MD

If you’re reading this, I’ve gone on the long hayride. Relentless colon cancer. I’ve had a good life but one’s never ready to say goodbye to family and friends. I was the oldest of 9 children born in Albany, N.Y. I had a great childhood with schooling in Albany. I went to medical school in Brussels, Belgium, taking all my courses in French. Internal Medicine training in Mount Sinai Hospital in Hartford, Ct then became an E.R. physician at St. Peters Hospital in Albany, N.Y. In the early 80’s while residing in Albany, I began pursuing my passion for cardiology. I trained for 2 years at the Albany Medical Center. I was a Cardiologist from 1985-2024, practicing 33 years in St. Augustine ( Prior to moving to St. Augustine, I practiced cardiology in Inverness, FL for 5 years) I married in 1974, hitting the lottery, to my wife Bernadette. We had 3 boys, Justin, Chris and Daniel. All of whom we love and are very proud. As a husband and father, we had some great family vacations, Europe, San Francisco, Saratoga and elsewhere. This generated great memories. As a doctor in St. Augustine Cardiology Associates, I worked alongside Ferris George. We worked hard, respected each other and were both former altar boys. Great office people as well. I was old school and always wore a tie to work-Van Gogh, Monet, Norman Rockwell. My ties were a good springboard for lighthearted office and hospital banter. I have good memories of the hospital and all my peers with whom we discussed varied topics- especially the Jacksonville Jaguars. I always said that when I die I want 6 Jaguars to be my pallbearers and let me down one last time! I went to many Jaguar games, enjoyed golf, traveling, reading, biking and to a certain degree working. Jag games with my brothers were special. How do you encapsulate a life - not easy. I love my wife and family, and while here, I loved life. I loved golf but never really figured it out. The only thing I learned was use an old ball on a waterhole and always wash your ball before you hit it and not after. I also leave behind my sisters, Linda Michalak, Donna Kirby and Dorothy LaClair; brothers, Michael Signor, John Signor and Tom Signor. I was preceded in death by my parents, Robert and Dorothy Signor; brother, Richard Signor and sister, Sharon Purcell Signor. A memorial mass will be held at 9am on Friday, November 15, 2024 at St. Anastasia Catholic Church. A gathering will be held from 5-7 pm on Thursday, November 14, 2024 at St. Johns Family Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers the family request donations to UF St John’s Hospital, Community Hospice.
