Paul E. Sargent

Paul Ernest Sargent of St. Augustine, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Sunday, November 12th. He was an incredible father, husband, brother, friend, mentor, and follower of Jesus Christ. Throughout his life, Paul dedicated his time and talents to serving others in many capacities. Paul loved working on car engines and after graduating from high school in Northboro, MA, he proudly served in the US Air Force where he had the opportunity to work on aircraft engines. Being very mechanically inclined (he was affectionately referred to as “Mr. Fixit”), Paul especially enjoyed this work and became adept at working on anything mechanical. Paul was a volunteer firefighter in Bound Brook, NJ and in Stratton, VT for many years. He had a great love of community and the strong desire to serve. Following a successful career in NJ as an Electrical Contractor, he retired in 2003, and moved to FL with his beloved wife and two children. The family quickly developed a strong bond with Anastasia Baptist Church and became involved in church activities while growing in their faith. Paul served at the Anastasia 16 campus as a Deacon and Facilities Committee chair. He loved his church family. He also loved working with children so he took on a job driving a school bus for St. Johns County School District. When his grandchildren were born, he was their proud caregiver during the day. All the children he interacted with absolutely adored him. Paul loved to read, particularly the daily newspaper and auto magazines. He was always looking to learn something new, stay up to date on current events and develop his knowledge. Being outside, whether hiking, skiing, working on a car or laying on the beach, was where he was always the happiest. He had a special appreciation for nature and all the beauty that came with it. Paul loved his family dearly and sincerely, and always prioritized spending time with them. Paul is survived by his wife, Judy; daughter Amanda (Ethan) Gumble of St. Augustine, FL; son Trevor (Judy) Sargent of Lutz, FL; son Hollis (Andrea) Sargent of Bennington, VT; daughter Barbara Sargent of NJ; daughter Laura Sargent of NJ; grandchildren Mia, Brett and Paul Gumble; Gabrielle (Dan) Norton; Casey Sargent; and great grandchildren Sage and Clayton Norton; and brother Ted (Judy) of PA. Paul’s life will be celebrated on Saturday, November 18th at Anastasis 16 Church (110 Circle Drive East) at 2 pm. The service will also be streamed on the Anastasia 16 Church Facebook page. St. Johns Family Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
