Merlon Lamar Solano

Merlon Lamar Solano October 26, 1933 - December 3, 2009 Merlon Lamar Solano, Sr., (Mr. Dee), 76, St. Augustine, went home to be with the Lord on December 3, 2009 surrounded by his loving family. He was a proud life long resident of St. Augustine. He enjoyed family gatherings, hunting, mullet fishing, telling jokes and was known for a good gopher stew and also spending precious time with his grandchildren. He was a loving husband of forty one years, and also a devoted, loving, and caring father, grandfather, uncle, brother, and friend to many people. He loved his family and enjoyed the time they shared together. He enjoyed the outdoors and leading a very active life. He was a master of many things and he was a wonderful man in many ways. He is preceded in death by his son, Merlon Lamar Solano, Jr., his parents, Elzie Solano and Ollie Nix, and his brothers, Elzie Solano, Jr. and Fabian Solano. He is survived locally by his wife, Karen Solano, his sisters, Eileen Thompson and Barbara Colee, his daughters, Linda (Butch) Henderson, Cindy (Kevin) Carter of Panama City, Cathy (David) Scott, Lorri McNeal of Jacksonville, Marla (John) Mullis; his sons, Robin (Amanda) Solano, Michael (Tammy) Solano, and Michael "Willie" Scaff; grandchildren, Steven, John, Jeffery and Kaitlin McNeal, Coty and Jesse Moore, Robert, Karyssa, and Savannah Mullis, Alyssa, Makayla, and Michael Solano, Jr., Angelina Scaff and Jeffery Lynn Carter. He also leaves a host of many other grandchildren, great-grandchildren, family members, and friends. He was deeply loved and will be missed very much for a long time by his family. We want to give special thanks to the staff and doctors at Flagler Hospital, and also to Steven and Michelle Leonard, Larry and Diane Roy, and Pastor James and Ruth Taylor. Funeral services will be held 11:00 AM Thursday December 10, 2009 at St. Johns Family Funeral Home with Pastor James Taylor, Bethany Baptist Church officiating. Visitation will be held from 5-8 PM Wednesday December 9, 2009 at St. Johns Family Funeral Home. Daddy was born at 105 Masters Drive on October 26, 1933. He truly is a dieing breed and one of the last old timers and as far as his family is concerned, St. Augustine has lost a legend. Arrangements will be announced by St. Johns Family Funeral Home.
