In Loving Memory of Mary Catharine “Mary Kay” Holcomb March 8, 1956 - August 19, 2026 Mary Catharine Holcomb, affectionately known as Mary Kay, Mom, Momma H, and Grandma, went home to be with her Heavenly Father, leaving behind a lifetime of memories, laughter, love, and a family who will miss her more than words could ever express. Mary was born on March 8, 1956, in Jacksonville, Florida, to the late Kenneth George Hunt and Marguerite Brunson Hunt. If you knew Mary, you knew there were a few things she loved and she loved them well. She was an avid Beatles fan, could always appreciate some good Lynyrd Skynyrd music, proudly cheered on her Florida Gators, and was rarely going to turn down the opportunity to set sail on a cruise. She had a deep love of history and genealogy and enjoyed learning about the people, places, and stories that came before her. But as much as Mary loved music, history, cruising, traveling and her Gators, nothing compared to the love she had for her family. Mary loved her children to her very core, and becoming a grandmother only gave her more people to pour that love into. Her grandchildren held an incredibly special place in her heart and were a driving force in her life. To them, she wasn’t simply Mary Kay, she was Grandma, and that was one of the greatest titles she ever held. Mary was also a devoted wife to Kevin Todd Holcomb Sr., with whom she shared 45 years of life. Together they built a family, weathered the storms that being a Navy wife brings, celebrated Life’s joys, and created a story that will continue through the generations they leave behind. Mary was a strong woman who faced many challenges throughout her life with strength and grace. She was intelligent and had a heart for understanding others, earning her bachelor's degree in psychology from Charleston Southern University. Life was not always easy for Mary during her time here on earth, but even as dementia began taking away pieces of the life she once knew, it could never take away the love that connected her to her family. Even when names became difficult and words became few, love remained. She still smiled. Her hands still reached for the people she loved. She still said her precious I love you’s. And there were still moments when everyone around her knew that somewhere beyond the confusion, Mary Kay was still there. Mary was preceded in death by her beloved son, John Michael “Mikey” Holcomb; granddaughter, Dana Marie Woods; her mother, Marguerite Brunson Hunt; her father, Kenneth George Hunt; and her brothers, Walter Hunt and Stephen Hunt. She leaves behind her devoted husband and love of her life, Kevin Todd Holcomb Sr.; daughter, Jennifer Hill (Leonard); sons, Jeremy Holcomb (Megan) and Kevin Holcomb Jr. (Kelly); grandchildren, Catherine “Katie Bug” King (Marty), Hannah Wedzinga, Benjamin Wedzinga, Brandon Hill, Melody Wilson, Alyssa Holcomb, Nathan Holcomb, Preston Holcomb, Luke Holcomb, Brayden Holcomb, Aaliyah Holcomb; great grandchildren, Gunner King, and Zora King; her brother, John Hunt (Rita); as well as a host of nieces, nephews, extended family members, and loved ones whose lives she touched. Today, our hearts are incredibly heavy. We will miss Mary more than words could express. We will miss her voice, her smile, her presence, her stories, and simply knowing that she was here. But we do not grieve without hope. While saying goodbye hurts deeply, we are thankful that Mary’s final chapter was not written by dementia, pain, confusion, or a failing body. We believe her story continues in the presence of the Savior she has now gone home to meet. Today, Mary is no longer confined to a body filled with pain. Confusion can no longer cloud her mind. Dementia can no longer steal her memories. Her body is whole, her mind is clear, and every burden she carried on this earth has been laid down. And perhaps one of the sweetest thoughts of all is knowing that the people she has loved and lost are no longer simply memories. Mary is home with them. So this isn’t forever goodbye. It’s simply, “We love you, Mary, Mom, Grandma. We’ll see you later.” Until that beautiful reunion, we will carry her with us. In the stories we tell, the music that makes us think of her, every Gator game, every cruise ship sailing away, and most importantly, in the family she loved so deeply. “And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain…” Revelation 21:4 Rest peacefully, Mary Kay. Your journey is finished, your mind is whole, your pain is gone, and you are home. A celebration of Mary’s life will be held at 11 am on Monday, August 24, 2026 at St. Johns Family Funeral Home with Pastor Willie McKinnon, Jr. officiating. A visitation, beginning at 10 am will precede the service. Mary will be laid to rest on Saturday, August 29, 2026 at Oak Hill Cemetery in Moncks Corner, SC. St. Johns Family Funeral Home is in charge of arrrangements.
