Marta Espinosa

Marta Espinosa, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away peacefully on December 31, 2024, at the age of 87 in St. Augustine, Florida. She was born on March 1, 1937 in Cabo Rojo, Puerto Rico, the daughter of the late Francisco and Maria Vargas. Marta’s life was defined by love, faith, and dedication to her family. She married the love of her life, Nicolas Espinosa, with whom she shared a deep partnership for 65 years. Together, they raised a beautiful family in Brooklyn, NY. Marta and Nicolas were very active in the Catholic church. They served as Lectors and were leaders of the Charismatic group at their church in NY. They also owned a religious bookstore, where they shared their love of faith and knowledge with their community. They were members of San Sebastian Catholic Church in St. Augustine. Marta was known for her selflessness, unconditional love and her famous pink beans and rice. Her greatest joy was caring for her family. While raising her children she would travel with them to and from school every day to ensure they were safe, had a quality education and every opportunity to succeed. Beyond her passion for being the domestic engineer of her family, she loved to read, dance, shop, and indulge in the scents of her favorite perfumes. Marta was preceded in death by her husband, Nicolas (November 14, 2024). She is survived by her four children, Waldemar Sandoval (Yolanda) of Colorado Springs, CO; David Sandoval (Joyce) of Atlanta, GA; Norma Miolan (Leo) of Glendale, NY, Sylvia Espinosa of St. Augustine, FL; stepdaughter Rachel Espinosa of Brooklyn; 14 grandchildren, and 21 great grandchildren. Marta’s legacy of strength, faith, love and devotion will live on in the hearts of all who were fortunate enough to know her. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, January 10th at 11 a.m. at San Sebastian Catholic Church in St. Augustine. Interment will follow at Our Lady of Good Counsel Catholic Church Cemetery.
