Konstantinos Christoulias

Konstantinos “Dino” Christoulias, age 96, of Nemea, Korinthias, Greece, left this world to be with his Heavenly Father on February 16, 2026 while living in Jacksonville, Florida. He was the oldest of three children born to George and Anastassia Christoulias in his beloved village of Nemea. As a child, he survived the Nazi occupation during World War II, where survival skills were more valuable than school lessons. As a teen, he faced the post-WWII period of starvation in Greece and the communist violence in the years that followed. As a young man, he served in the Greek Army rising to the rank of Sergeant. Finally in 1958 he followed his life-long best friend, Sotirios “Sam” Kugeares, to America. Like brothers, Sam and Dino had been inseparable from their elementary school days in Nemea. They were roommates when they first came to America, each other’s “best man” when they married, and remained the best of friends until the end. In 1960 Dino married the love of his life, Christina Andrico Christoulias of Akron, Ohio and settled in Ann Arbor, Michigan where he and Christina were faithful parishioners of St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church. Having had no children of their own, they became “Theo Dino” and “Thea Christina” not just for every niece and nephew, but for the children of the entire St. Nicholas community, never missing a baptism, graduation, wedding, or funeral in over 50 years. They never met a stranger and loved hosting family and friends, Dino doing all the cooking, and Christina photographing all the memories. After the heart-breaking loss of his beloved Christina to breast cancer in 2012, alone and beginning to lose his eyesight to macular degeneration, “Papou Dino” came to live with his beloved God-daughter, Zoe Kugeares, and her family eventually moving to Jacksonville, Florida with Zoe and her youngest daughter Marika to be near his life-long friend Sam. Having survived all their siblings and most of their friends, Dino and Sam once again became roommates enjoying all of Marika’s rescue animals. Papou Dino especially loved one of the rescue cats he named Achilles who misses Papou Dino’s always welcoming lap and patient pets the most. With patience, perseverance, and unshakable faith in God, “Papou Dino” lived a quiet, but extraordinary life just by being truly present. By example, he showed that “family” is who we choose to love and the relationships we nurture through enduring dedication over a lifetime. A visitation will be held on Friday, April 24, 2026 between 4:00 – 6:00 p.m. at the St. Johns Family Funeral Home, 385 State Rd 207, St. Augustine, FL 32084. Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, April 25, 2026 at 11:00 a.m. at Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church, 2940 CR 214 (W. King St.), St. Augustine, FL, with V. Rev. Fr. Maximos Politis officiating; Makaria immediately following at the church hall. Interment will follow at a later date, in Bethlehem Cemetery, Ann Arbor, Michigan, next to his beloved wife.
