John Fallon Congdon November 18, 1927 - April 17, 2016 John Fallon Congdon, 88, of St. Augustine, FL, passed away peacefully on Sunday, April 17, 2016 at the Community Hospice Bailey Family Center for Caring. Born on November 18, 1927 in Albany, NY to George and Kathryn (Dooley) Congdon, he lived and worked in Albany and upon retirement for the last 22 years in St. Augustine. John attended Christian Brothers Academy, but left at age 17 to enlist in World War II. He was in the U.S. Navy during the war serving on aircraft carriers, mostly on the USS Shangri-La and the USS Siboney. After his military service he finished his education, graduating from Hudson Valley Community College in Troy NY. John was a loving husband and father who enjoyed a long career in a number of early electronics technologies including tube-based audiometers and landline business phone systems in Upstate NY. After retiring to the St. Augustine area, he organized several beach runs and bicycling events to raise funds for the many Knights of Columbus charities. In his spare time he enjoyed long morning walks (wearing his finger ring rosary), gardening, genealogy, personal finance and watching TV (especially Doc Martin episodes). He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Irene; children John R. (Irene) Congdon, Robert M. (Andrea) Congdon, Kate L. Samson and Patricia M. (Richard) Schaefer. He is also survived by ten grandchildren, Patrick and Jonathan Congdon, Benjamin and Matthew Congdon, Chris, John and Margaret Samson, Madeleine, Luke and Mark Schaefer. John was predeceased in death by his parents, his brother, George, Jr., and his sister, Helen McDaniel. The family extends a special thank you to the Community Hospice Bailey Family Center for Caring for everything they do daily, not only for us, but everyone. A funeral mass will be celebrated on Tuesday, April 26, 2016 at 9:00 AM at St. Anastasia Catholic Church followed by inurnment in the Cloisters Columbarium.
