Joan Mary Reilly

Joan Mary Reilly, born May 19th, 1928 to parents Joseph Scardallis and Mary Russ, will forever be remembered as a truly remarkable and vivacious woman. Her life was filled with adventure, charm, and a dash of glamour. Graduating from high school with a sparkle in her eye, Joan ventured into the world of modeling in bustling Chicago, gracing the pages of magazines with her timeless beauty. Her elegance and poise earned her a place in the prestigious Good Housekeeping Magazine. She was not just a pretty face; she was also a diligent and talented secretary, working in upscale establishments like the renowned Drake Hotel. She regaled us with tales of her youth, reminiscing about her train rides and her love for "fly boys." Her free spirit and zest for life led her to Miami, Florida, in the mid-1950s, where she embarked on new adventures. In a testament to her adventurous spirit, Joan once borrowed the family car and, along with a friend, embarked on a cross-country road trip to sunny California. This bold journey was just one of the many tales she shared with a wistful smile. She also had the privilege of visiting Cuba in the 1950s, capturing the essence of the island nation before the borders closed. Throughout her life, Joan continued her professional journey, rising to the position of Bank Officer, a testament to her dedication and strong work ethic. She didn't retire until 1990, an impressive accomplishment indeed. Joan was known for her timeless sense of style and elegance, always receiving compliments on her impeccable appearance, even at the age of 95. She remained ever the picture of grace, a living embodiment of the phrase "age is just a number." Her evenings were filled with joy as she sipped her nightly scotch and indulged in her beloved "stories," better known as soap operas, a cherished ritual she held until the very end. Joan is survived by her children Micki Moss and husband, Jeff Howard and Kelly Halnon and husband, Bill, as well as her five grandchildren: Jessica Kattman and husband Jon; Samantha Neel and husband Casey; Will Halnon; Michael Moss and Michelle Moss; Joan is also survived by her four great-grandchildren: Reagan Kattman, Hunter Neel, Parker Neel, and Taylor Neel. Joan is preceded in death by her parents and sister, Audrey Driscoll. Ms. Joan Reailly brought joy, laughter, and an undeniable zest for life to everyone she met. Her infectious spirit will live on in our hearts, reminding us to embrace life's adventures with the same enthusiasm and grace she exemplified. May she rest in eternal peace. A private celebration of life will be held at a later date. St. Johns Family Funeral Home of St. Augustine is assisting the family with arrangements.
