James Monroe Hill, Jr.

James Monroe Hill, Jr. August 29, 1925 - June 6, 2014 James Monroe Hill Jr., age 88, of St. Augustine, passed away on June 6, 2014 at 2:15 pm., at the Bailey Family Center for Caring with his daughter by his side. He was born on August 29, 1925 In Starkville, Mississippi to Charlie Ruffin Bell Hill and James Monroe Hill Sr. He accepted Christ at an early age, was baptized, and attended Griffin United Methodist Church, where he was an active choir member. He served in WWII and Korean War and was Honorably Discharged. Mr. Hill worked very hard to take care of his family as a Farmer, Carpenter and drove eighteen Wheeler Trucks for Johnson Motor Lines and Levi Strauss & Company. Bro. James M. Hill Jr., a 32 mason, joined Rockhill Lodge #179 in Starkville, Mississippi in the early 1960's working under the jurisdiction of M.W. King Hiram Grand Lodge, A.F. & A.M., State of Mississippi. As a member he served as Secretary and Worshipful Master. Bro. Hill remained a faithful member for many years. Upon relocating to Florida with his daughter (Lois) on April 2011, his membership remained faithful. In his desire for more light, Bro. Hill joined Jackson Royal Arch Chapter #1, Mt. Calvary Knight Templar #4, Solomon Grand Consistory #1, and Jerusalem Shrine Temple #1. Bro. Hill was constituent to the Masonic family and was presented with a Life Time Membership Award on November 23, 2014 during the Grand Lodge 75th Diamond Jubilee Anniversary. While living in Florida he and his daughter (Lois) traveled plenty and he also attended the Sunshine Adult Day Care Center five days a week until May 30, 2014. He married Ella Mae Brooks on his eighteenth (18th) birthday on August 29, 1943, from this union six children were born: James Curtis Hill, one set of twins - Lois Hill Seraile and Lloyd Henry Hill, Ethel Hill Bolton, Benjamin Franklin Hill (deceased) and Charlie Ann Hill George. He has two surviving sisters-in-law, Emma Lee Brooks Gillespie and Mary Katherine Brooks Williams. He cherished his ten grandchildren; Brigitte, Jessie Jr., Lloyd Jr., Tershama, Eyukala, Quinton, Kelly, Mark (deceased), James Jr., and Zheyra. He has three honorary granddaughters; Rhondaline (Narcisse), Ronique (Marcus), and Georgia (Anthony). He adored his nineteen great grandchildren and was blessed to have nine great-great grandchildren he was very fond of his seven adorable honorary daughters; Lorraine Robinson, Yolanda Rollings, Claudia Goojar, Frances Manship, Grace Zeppeiri, Zenzi Rogers and Lana Tousaint whom he loved as his own. He admired his nieces; Ella Louise Banks, Mavis Emory, Vivian White, Debra Hill and would light up at the mention of their names. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Ella Mae Brooks Hill, his son Benjamin Franklin Hill, his sisters Ozie Aline Hill, Jessie Mae Hill Carroll, Ida Vassie Hill, Anna Will Hill Harrison, his brothers Ward Templeton Hill, Judge Timothy Hill, Robert Harrison Hill, Oliver Alexander Hill, William Henry Hill and Cludges G. Hill. His sister-in-law Dorothy Brooks Thompson (deceased) and brother-in-law John Henry Brooks (deceased) He will be sadly missed and remembered by a host of nieces, nephews, relatives, friends and his New Beginning Church Family.
