Dorothy "Dot" Maronel Speciale

Dorothy Maronel Speciale, affectionately known as Dot, 83, of St. Augustine, Florida, passed away peacefully on September 11, 2026, at the Bailey Family Center for Caring. Dorothy moved to St. Augustine from Baltimore, Maryland, in 1956 when her parents, the late Bill and Thelma Green, purchased Haley’s Court on Vilano Beach. St. Augustine remained her beloved home throughout her life. She graduated from St. Joseph Academy in 1961 and later attended Massey Business College. Dorothy enjoyed a long and distinguished career in banking, dedicating 45 years to serving her community. She worked at Security Federal Savings & Loan, Barnett Bank, and First Federal Bank of North Florida, from which she retired in 2007. Dorothy was deeply committed to her community and generously gave her time and talents to several organizations. She served as a board member of the ARC of the St. Johns, including 11 years as secretary. She was also an active member of the Civitan Club and the St. Joseph Academy Alumni Association, serving as treasurer of both organizations for many years. Since Dot was originally from Maryland, she loved crabs and was known to clear a whole table full of blue crabs by herself. She was also famous for her Dot’s famous cheese balls which she did for many years at Christmas time and would give to her many friends. Dot will be remembered for her devotion to her family, her love for St. Augustine, and her many years of service to her community. She is survived by her sons, John (Sonya) and Joseph (Robin) Maronel; brother, William J. Green Jr.; grandchildren, Brittany Sands (Derek), Austin Maronel (Leah), Tradd Maronel (Juliette), Trey Maronel (Tonya), Hannah Santopadre (Geoffrey), Ethan Maronel (Sarah), and Jace Ortagus (Kaylin); and great-grandchildren, Maya, Noah, Levi, Reyla, Rhett, Nova, Elena, Sofia, Macy, Adeline, and Evelyn. She was preceded in death by her parents, Bill and Thelma Green; her first husband, Joseph Maronel; her second husband, John Speciale; and her son, Mike Maronel. A visitation will be held from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Monday, September 28, 2026, at St. Johns Family Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 9:00 a.m. Tuesday, September 29, 2026, at Corpus Christi Catholic Church. Interment will follow at San Lorenzo Cemetery. Flowers are gratefully declined.
