Delores Ann Johnson

Delores Ann (Larson) Johnson, born on July 2, 1935, in Moose Lake, MN, passed away peacefully at the Bailey Center of Community Hospice and Palliative Care in St. Augustine, FL on August 14, 2026. Delores was raised by her adoptive parents, Oscar Melvin and Hilma Fransina Larson on a farm near Onamia, MN. She lived briefly in the San Francisco Bay area during WWII where her father helped to build warships. She moved with her family to Spring Lake Park, MN after the war and eventually attended St. Cloud State Teachers College, obtaining a degree in teaching. After a brief interlude teaching in Richfield, MN, she became a Trans World Airlines (TWA) stewardess in 1957. Based out of San Francisco, CA she enjoyed the excitement of travel for almost 2 years before returning to teaching. During her time in San Francisco, CA she met and married John Baylous (J.B.) Johnson who was originally from Dallas, TX. For the next 15 years they would live in CA, VA, CO, MI, MD, AZ following John Baylous' career with the National Park Service. They eventually settled in TX. When Delores's children were school age, she returned to teaching with a career that spanned 27 years. She earned a Master's Degree along the way and eventually became a guidance counselor, finishing her career with the Dallas County School District. Delores and J.B. retired to FL from TX in 1992. Delores was a woman of many interests and talents. She enjoyed traveling, taking an Alaskan cruise with family for her 90th birthday. An avid embroiderer, she beautifully crafted many pieces that held a special place in the hearts of her loved ones. Delores took immense pride in applauding her grandchildren's accomplishments, nurturing their talents and cheering them on from the sidelines. Her love of animals further showcased her kind and gentle spirit, making her a cherished companion to her furry friends. Delores was a vibrant 90-year-old, still driving and living independently in her own home and active in book club, game night, and exercise class when she was stricken with a sudden illness in June 2026. She was blessed to have wonderful friends who visited often during her illness and kept in daily touch via their group chat. She was able to celebrate her 91st birthday in her own home with loved ones before transitioning to her daughter Pamela's home where she was lovingly cared for by her family. Delores is survived by her daughter Pamela Johnson-Smith (Danny) of St. Augustine, FL, son Trevor Johnson of Needles, CA, grandson Alex San Miguel of Doral, FL, granddaughter Alanna San Miguel of St. Augustine, FL, step granddaughters, Ashley Smith of St. Augustine, FL and Chelsea Anderkin (Jason) of Inverness, FL as well as her dear friend since middle school, Carol Huser of Minneapolis, MN. Her beloved dog, Cleo, is now on to a new adventure living in CA with Trevor. Delores loved nature and it was her wish for her ashes to be scattered in the mountains, a request that her family will honor when they all gather together at a later date to celebrate her life and legacy.
