Charlotte B Johns April 9, 1924 - July 21, 2017 Charlotte Marie Brubaker Johns was called to her Lord on July 21, 2017 at age 93. She passed peacefully in her own home. Born April 9, 1924, in St. Augustine FL, Charlotte was the eldest of the 3 children of Emil Scott and Nellie May Brubaker. She graduated from Palatka HS in 1942 and from Florida State College for Women in 1945 with degrees in Home Economics and Chemistry. She worked for the St. Augustine Gas Company, then taught at Hastings HS. She married Hastings farmer, Frank C. Johns, on July 6, 1947 and they had 4 children: Helen, Frank Jr., Doree and Daniel. In 1964 she returned to teaching at the R. B. Hunt elementary school and later at the Church of Christ Christian School. She earned her Master’s Degree at the University of Florida. Charlotte always viewed teaching as the most rewarding and challenging of careers. The influence she had on her students continues to be felt in the city of St. Augustine as these men and women go about their daily lives. Charlotte was a dedicated and conscientious member of the Hastings Lionettes, St. Johns Homemakers, 4-H, St. Augustine Genealogy Society, Bayview Nursing Home Auxiliary, a founding member of the 696 Investment Club, and a participant in the ongoing Women’s Health Initiative study. She had a passion for learning, for research and for the accuracy of figures. Charlotte was a kind and gentle soul who deeply loved her Lord and cherished her Christian family. We rejoice that she has taken her place in Heaven but will miss her sweet smile and twinkling eyes. She was preceded in death by her parents, her brother Elton, her husband, and her son, Frank. She is survived by 3 children, 9 grandchildren and 7 great-grand children who have been urged to maintain strong family ties that she cherished so much. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you donate to the Bayview Nursing Home or the charity of your choice. Her memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on August 19, 2017, at the St. Augustine Church of Christ, 2900 Lewis Speedway, St. Augustine FL. Funeral arrangements are by St. Johns Family Funeral Home.
