Brian Steve Kaman

Brian Steve Kaman, 57, passed away on January 21, 2026 due to complications from Early (Young) Onset Alzheimer’s Disease. Brian was born in Honolulu, Hawaii to Joyce and Karl Kaman. After his father’s retirement from the U.S. Navy, Brian’s formative years were spent in Lake City, Florida where he graduated from Columbia High School in 1986. He earned an Associate of Science degree from Santa Fe Community College and later graduated with a bachelor’s degree in economics from Florida State University in 1991. He was the first in his family to attend and graduate from college. It was during his time at FSU that Brian developed a love for playing rugby and became a devoted FSU football fan. After graduating, Brian returned to Lake City and began working for Baya Home Care. In 1994, he was promoted to store manager and opened a Baya Home Care branch in St. Augustine, Florida. In 2004, Brian opened his own business, St. Augustine Medical Equipment. He had a successful career in the field until he retired in 2021, due to the progression of Alzheimer’s disease. Moving to St. Augustine proved to be a pivotal event in Brian’s life, as he met the love of his life there on a blind date in 1995. They were happily married for 30 years, and he is now survived by his wife, Nancy Kramer Kaman, and their three loving children: Cynthia (Tallahassee), Brandon (St. Augustine), and Kevin (Tallahassee). Brian was predeceased by his father, Karl, and is survived by his mother, Joyce Kaman (St. Augustine), sister, Patty Grove (Ethan-Lake City, FL), brother, Robbie Kaman (Liz-Madison, FL); sisters-in-law Becky Powell (Bill-Lexington, KY), Karen Dean (Mike-Lakeland, FL), Cindy Shackelford (Michael-St. Augustine), Linda Barrera (Jesus-St. Augustine); and, many beloved nieces and nephews. Since moving to St. Augustine, Brian was active in and served the community through the Lion’s Club, Knights of Columbus, and his church, St. Anastasia Catholic Church, where he served on the finance committee and was a Eucharistic minister for many years. Brian also spent many wonderful years as a leader with Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts Troop 63. He cherished the camaraderie with his fellow leaders and memories he created with his two sons who were members. He was especially proud when his older son, Brandon, achieved the rank of Eagle Scout. Brian always had a great attitude, strong work ethic, and fantastic sense of humor. Even amid his devastating disease, he set an example of strength and, above all, faith in accepting God’s will for his life. His family has found many silver linings in these difficult years, and they extend their gratitude to the many family members who helped care for and spent time with Brian, supportive neighbors, friends, and the St. Anastasia Catholic Church choir who offered prayers, meals, and assistance when needed; wonderful healthcare workers and research workers at the Mayo Clinic and the Norman Fixel Institute for Neurological Diseases; home care, palliative care, hospice caregivers; Riverside Cottages memory care; and, especially the Nine and Dine golf group who so lovingly welcomed Brian to play golf and enjoy a meal together each week until he could no longer participate. Visitation will be held at St. Johns Family Funeral Home (385 SR 207 St. Augustine, FL 32084) on Friday evening, January 30th from 5:00 pm – 7:00 pm. A memorial mass at St. Anastasia Catholic Church (5205 A1A South St. Augustine, FL 32080) will be on Saturday, January 31 at 11:00 am. A reception will follow immediately afterwards at St. Anastasia Catholic Church’s Celebration Hall. A private burial rite will be attended by the family at San Lorenzo Catholic Cemetery in St. Augustine, prior to the memorial mass.
