Ann A. Smith, Middleburg, FL April 5, 1934 –2025 It is with great sadness that the family of Ann A. Smith shares her peaceful passing on January 12, 2025. She was born in Chicago, Illinois on April 5, 1934 to Michael and Edith (Mullen) Hunter. On June 22, 1952 she married O. Daniel Smith, who after marriage became a career Marine. They shared 26 years of marriage and 5 children. She is survived by her children. Daughters; Danette Smith of Galesburg, IL, Lorrie Jean (Smith) Billings of Middleburg, FL, and Kristina Lyn (Smith) Thoresen of Saint Augustine, FL. Sons; Brian Daniel Smith and Jon Loren (Terri) Smith of Middleburg, FL Grandrandchildren; Donna Melvin, Adam Melvin of IL, Andy Gleason (Jessica) & Aaron Gleason (Mica) of TX, Kristin Wissing (Cliff), Katie Kellett (Chris), Sara Wilson (Dave) all of FL, Elysha Anderson, Jaycob Hanlin of IL, Shaylyn Williams of FL, Amanda Smith, Nicole Smith, Jared Smith, Taylor Smith, & Cory Smith all of FL, Loren (Darcy) Smith, Brandy (Smith) & Terry Chauncey, James & Marilee Brewer, Arriale & Johnny Lamothe, all of FL Also surviving are 42 Great Grandchildren and 6 Great Great Grandchildren. Also Siblings; Ronald Clark of NV Rosemary Roback of CA She was Preceded in death by her Mother Edith Hunter Clark, Father, Michael Hunter. Brothers; Oregon, Charles, David, Donald & Raymond Sisters; Sarah, Ruth, and Delores And an infant Grandson, now in the arms of his Poppit. Also preceding her, was her very significant other for over 35 years, Doug. Douglas Silva was an amazing man and like a dad and grandpa to the family. He was a steadfast partner until his divine departure on 12/25/2015 Her life was shaped by resilience, as she grew up during the Great Depression and World War II, having lost her father before she was born. Despite the challenges, she shared countless cherished stories of her childhood (we could write a best seller)that reflected her strength, humor and perseverance through the years. As a Chicago Cubs fan, she fulfilled a lifelong dream by witnessing her beloved team win a World Series, even if it was from her recliner. When it came to Football, she was a diehard Jaguars fan from their first NFL franchise game, played in Jacksonville on Sep 10, 1995. She was in pure Heaven when at age 88 she attended her first live game in Jax and met many of players.. young and ‘seasoned’. She loved crafting with her many grandchildren and great-grandchildren, taking road-trips, and of course hosting her annual Christmas Eve gatherings that brought together 40–50 family members. She spent 22 challenging years as a military wife, often raising her five children on her own while her husband served overseas, including during wartime. Baking and decorating cakes was both a career and a passion for her. From simple birthday cakes to elaborate wedding masterpieces. Her creations were true works of art that brought joy to her and many within her community, neighborhood and at home. She also enjoyed bowling, playing cornhole, and board games, where her sharp mind shone—especially in trivia games, where having her on your team was a sure win. She worked in food services at Wilkinson Jr High in Middleburg, FL during the late 70’s - early 80’s. From there she started a career at Orange Park Hospital in their dietary department where she went on to retire, taking with her lifelong friendships and many cherished memories. Her legacy is one of love, a woman of strong faith, inner-strength, and unwavering devotion to her family and friends. She was deeply loved as a Mother, Grammy, Poppit, Memaw, Great-Grammy and Great Great- Grammy. She will always be remembered as an incredible woman who touched countless lives with her grace and kindness. She had a way of making everyone feel uniquely special. Our family is truly devastated over the loss of our family Matriarch… but will get through this together, and together we will make her proud. A Celebration of Life will be held for family and close friends on January 26, 2025, from 1 to 5 p.m. at the Pace Island Club House, 1545 Royal Fern Ln. Orange Park, FL 32003. There will be light hors d’oeuvres served along with strawberry milkshakes, her favorite! If so inclined, please send Cards and flowers to 41 Breezy Pt, Saint Augustine, FL 32092. They will be displayed in the venue during the gathering. May our beloved Moms memory continue to live on in the hearts of all who were touched by her love, grace and kindness.
