Alan Francis Bethell

Alan Francis Bethell December 25, 1923 - September 20, 2012 Alan Francis Bethell, age 88, of 11651 Cherry Hollow Drive, Chardon, Ohio, yet currently residing on his boat "WHISKER" in St. Augustine, passed away on September 20, 2012 at Flagler Hospital, after a long and hard battle with cancer. He was born on December 25, 1923 in Sudbury, Middlesex, England to parents Stanley Alfred Bethell and Alice Maud Bethell (nee Davis). Alan served as an Artificer Quarter Master Sergeant for the British Army, and graduated from Coventry Technical School, in Coventry England, with degrees in engineering and mathematics. His numerous accomplishments include being a prior President of Standard Triumph, Inc.; Subsidiary of Parent in the U.K.; Vice President of American Motors; President of the Eaton Corporation in the Materials Handling Division; President of Mayfran, Inc. and the Owner of Insite Business Resources. Alan also belonged to many organizations, including being a past board member and a member of the Mentor Harbor Yacht Club, in Mentor , OH. He was an accomplished sail boat race captain and judging official. Alan retired, and by all accounts "won the game" with a long and fruitful retirement on his boat and the high seas being a self-proclaimed "pirate" of the Southern Cross.
