William Thomas "Tom" Martin Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

Tom was born William Thomas Martin on January 24, 1938 and passed away on July 15, 2022. Born in Mountain Lake Park, Maryland, Tom met his future wife, Barbara, in the 7th grade and would later reconnect in their high school years. He is preceded in death by his two brothers, Darwin and Charles Martin. He is survived by his loving wife, Barbara, to whom he was married for 65 years. Tom was a proud father of 5 children: Tom, Jr. (Barbara), Kim (Jim), Mike (Melanie), Angel (Butch) and Patrick (Beth). Between all of the 5 children, Tom was a very proud grandpa to 13 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren and a great-great grandchild due in January. He retired from the Army National Guard with 40 years of service. He started his military career as a teen at Charlotte Hall Military Academy located in Maryland. He was also a past Master Mason in the state of New York. He and his wife Barbara faithfully served our Lord at St. Augustine Church of Christ, where he served as Elder. Tom and Barbara served as missionaries to Haiti 26 times, as well as into Peru, the Honduras and Panama, spreading the word of our Lord. They were both avid travelers. Over the years they traveled to 38 countries, saw all 50 states at least once. Tom's favorite country was Switzerland and his favorite state was Colorado in the Fall. He and Barbara went on 18 cruises and 18 different islands. Anyone who knew Tom knew that he truly never met a stranger in his life. He loved talking to people, to include total strangers, and sharing his many stories of places he had been. He also took the opportunity to speak of our Lord share the gospel of Jesus. He will be missed by his blood family and his Christian family. Services will be held at St. Augustine Church of Christ, 2900 Lewis Speedway on Thursday, July 21st at 11:00 a.m. The services will also be live-streamed through the churches website: https://staugustinecoc.com.
