Stephen Kenneth "Steve" Roche

In Loving Memory of Stephen Roche Stephen Kenneth "Steve" Roche, a beloved husband, father, brother, and cherished member of the community, passed away peacefully on May 8, 2024 at the age of 81. Stephen's journey began in Albuquerque, New Mexico, where he was born and raised. He pursued his passion for the English language, attending New Mexico State University and Long Beach State University where he studied English Literature. Stephen's entrepreneurial spirit led him to own and operate a variety of businesses, mostly in the family business of custom tile art. It was during his time in San Francisco that he met the love of his life, Jenny it was 1969 in a neighborhood pub where he was working. The relationship started when Jenny walked into the pub and asked for fish and chips to go, with Stephen saying to Jenny "I'll get you those fish and chips, But I'd like you to stay here and talk to me". They shared an instant connection and were married on March 30, 1969, after just four months of courtship. Together, they embarked on a life filled with love, adventure, and creativity. Settling in Santa Fe, New Mexico, Stephen, with his entrepreneur drive and Jenny with her artistic skills, founded Territorial Tiles, a handmade tile company. After moving to St. Augustine in 1994, Steve and Jenny, continued the handmade tile business, establishing Jennifer Roche Custom Tile which they successfully operated for many years. Their partnership was a testament to love, collaboration, and dedication. Stephen's zest for life extended beyond his professional endeavors. He found joy in playing his guitar, immersing himself in history and storytelling. A true aficionado of music, Stephen's melodies echoed the rhythm of his vibrant spirit. Stephen will be deeply missed by his beloved wife, Jenny Roche, his devoted children, Michelle Downing and husband Charles of St. Augustine and Kenny Roche of Brooklyn, NY: his loving sister Suzy Heer of Albuquerque; and grandchildren Kayden, Lucas, and Liam. His legacy of love, creativity, and passion will forever live on in the hearts of those who knew him. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Community Hospice of NE FL., honoring the compassionate care that Stephen received in his final days. St. Johns Family Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
