Rebecca Dery

It is with an extremely heavy heart, that the family of Rebecca Dery of St. Augustine, Florida, announce her passing on October 11, 2023, at the age of 66 surrounded by her loving family. Admired for her strength during her life and her ability to handle adversity, her strength was even more evident in her passing. Becky was born in Lafayette, Indiana on July 21, 1957, to the late Hubert "Bud" Dossett and the late Gladys Dunn Dossett. She grew up traveling between Hopkinsville, KY, and West Palm Beach, FL. She graduated from John I. Leonard High School in 1975 and married Bernard James Dery and had her only child Brooke. They were married 8 years, and although they divorced, they remained close friends till her passing. Becky worked at a bank out of high school, but she had the most fun working as a teller at the Palm Beach Kennel Club. She worked there for many years, creating long-lasting friendships and memories (and honoring her gambling skills). It was there she met her husband, the late William "MIke" Metcalf. In her late 30's, she decided to attend Palm Beach Community College to obtain an RN Degree, a fitting profession for someone so loving, caring, and compassionate. She had several careers in nursing, with her last one being her most rewarding, a school nurse at Mill Creek Academy. The kids loved her so much and, knowing she had a sweet tooth, often would bring her candy. After the passing of her husband, Becky moved in with her daughter, Brooke, son-in-law Mike, and her grandchildren, Cameron, Carter, and Kendall, her pride and joy. Her funny, silly, loving, and caring spirit will be deeply missed by all who were lucky enough to know her. In addition to Brooke (MIke) Abitabilo, Cameron, Carter, and Kendall, Becky is survived by her sister Marilyn Dossett Shannon (Eddie) from Hopkinsville, KY. She was preceded in death by her brother Buddy Dossett and sister Flossie Settle. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, October 16, 2023, at St. Johns Family Funeral Home in St. Augustine.
