April 2, 1946 - October 11, 2021
Kathryn “Kay” Henderson Anderson, loving wife, mother, grandmother and teacher went home to be with the Lord on October 11, 2021 after a long battle with Alzheimer’s disease. Kay was born in Lexington, KY, on April 2, 1946, and grew up in Barbourville, KY. At the age of 12, she then moved to New Wilmington, PA where she lived until she got married. She was a 1964 graduate of Wilmington Area High School and also graduated from Westminster College in 1968. Following graduation, she married David, her college sweetheart. She lived in Plum, a suburb of Pittsburgh, PA, for 30 years and has lived in St. Augustine, FL for the last 10 years. She was loving and caring; she never met a stranger and considered everyone a friend. Kay changed the lives of thousands of children during her 33 year teaching career with the Plum Borough School District. She especially loved teaching her second graders. To this day many adults call her their favorite teacher. She was actively involved in the church and never missed any of her kid’s activities. She was the ultimate fan, and loving supporter of her children and her husband. Preceding Kay in death are her father, Joseph Ralston Henderson and Elizabeth “Bets” Elder Henderson. Kay leaves behind David, her loving husband of 53 years; her children Kristin (Brian) Ross and DJ (Kim) Anderson, and her granddaughters Hailey, Mallory, and Zoey. Kay also leaves behind her brothers, Paul (Jane) Henderson and John (Margaret) Henderson and sister, Nancy (Daniel) Pihlblad as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins and in-laws. Many of you remember Kay before she struggled with Alzheimers. Even as she struggled with this disease she still touched people’s hearts. She loved giving hugs and interacting with all children. She was kind, funny, thoughtful, loving, and would do anything for anyone at the drop of a hat. Heaven has a great teacher and she is now pain free. We will miss you Kay, and so will all of the lives you touched along your great journey of life. There will be a Memorial Service at Good News Church Wildwood Campus, In St. Augustine, on November 2, 2021 at 6:00 PM. The family would appreciate donations to the Alzheimer’s Foundation in her name. Alzheimer’s Foundation of America, 322 8th Avenue, 16th Floor, New York, NY 10001.
