Jane Van Meter

June 29, 1947 - February 6, 2022

Jane Van Meter, 74, passed away February 6, 2022, at the Bailey Family Center for Caring in St Augustine, Florida. She was born in St Augustine, Florida to James J. Rake and Ellen Elizabeth Nottage. She attended local schools and graduated from St Augustine High School. Jane graduated from Florida State College Jacksonville where she received her Associates Degree. She began her career at The Exchange Bank in downtown St Augustine in the Mortgage Loan and Commercial Loan departments. She later had a successful mortgage lending career in Orange County, California before returning to St Augustine to begin a new journey into real estate. Jane was a member of the St Augustine and St Johns County Board of Realtors. She was an avid fan of square dancing and music. Jane enjoyed classical piano with her late husband, spending time with her grandchildren in the pool, and assisting in the performances of tribute artist Randy Elvis Filippi. Jane is survived by her daughter, Vicki Withrow; son in law, Nathan Withrow; grandchildren, Haley, Tristan, Sophie, Natalie, and Roxy; siblings, Jeffie Bennett (Gene Bennett) and Linda Ortagus; friend and majordomo, Randy Filippi. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Richard Alford; siblings, Betty Lou King and Jamie Rake. A Celebration of Life will be held Monday, February 21, at 10:00 AM at Turning Point at Calvary with Rev. Gregg Fischer officiating. The church is located at 3500 FL-16, St. Augustine, FL 32092. Covid-19 safety protocols will be in effect. St Johns Family Funeral Home & Crematory is in charge of the arrangements.
