James McCree London, 93, St. Augustine, passed away peacefully March 24, 2022 at the Bailey Center for Caring. He was born in Jackson, TN and was a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served during WW II. He was a Special Agent in the U.S. Army Reserves for 30 years. His career with the Internal Revenue Service began in Memphis, TN in 1957, and he retired in Jacksonville FL in 1980 where he worked in the Criminal Investigation, Intelligence Division as Branch Chief, Northern Florida division. From 1980 until 1992 he worked for the Florida Department of Revenue as Chief of Field Audits in the Medicaid Fraud Control Unit. Jim and his late wife Audrey loved travelling to Hawaii, Alaska, Europe and the Mediterranean. One of his favorite excursions was a 7-day White Water rafting trip in the Upper Grand Canyon with a 9-mile hike. He enjoyed walking on the St. Augustine beaches and even in his 90s would cover 6 or 7 miles. Jim was an inspiration to his family, a loving husband and father who will be deeply missed. He was preceded in death by his wife and soulmate of 38 years, Audrey J. London, his parents, Toye and Lura London and sisters Gwendolyn Owen and Dorothy Penrod. He is survived by his daughter Lisa Lane (Bill), stepson, John McIntyre, and 3 step-grandchildren. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to the Shriners Hospital, St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital, or to Tunnels to Towers. A memorial service will be held 6:00 p.m. Sunday April 10, 2022 at Crescent Beach Baptist Church with Dr. David Beauchamp officiating. St. Johns Family Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
