Helen Kimmons Powell, 84, passed away at her home Saturday morning at 1:30 am, June 4, 2022 with family by her side and the Lord Jesus Christ holding her hand. Helen was born Monday, February 21, 1938 in Paris, Tennessee to the late Hollis & Lois (Edwards) Kimmons of Memphis. Visitation will be Wednesday, June 8, 2022 from 4pm – 6pm at St Johns Family Funeral Home located at 385 State Road 207, St Augustine, Florida 32084. Funeral Services will be held at 12 noon Thursday, June 9, 2022 at St Johns Family Funeral Home at 385 State Road 207, St Augustine, Florida, 32084 with Keith Pate, Minister of Music, EHBC, officiating. Burial at Florida National Cemetery, Bushnell, Florida, alongside her husband will take place 1:00 pm Wednesday, June 15, 2022. She enjoyed music and theater, playing the clarinet and acting in plays in high school and college. Helen taught elementary school in Nashville, Tennessee for 28 years before retiring with her husband to St Augustine in 1991. She resumed her love of music and combined it with her commitment to God by playing the clarinet in the church orchestra. She also volunteered her time with the choral department at St Augustine High School. She is deeply missed by her son Charles (Pam) Powell II; daughter Marianne (Ricky) Armstrong; three grandchildren: Brandy (Martijn) Heuts, Ashley (Geoff) Johnson, and Joshua (Katie) Armstrong; four great-grandchildren: Grace, Noah, Matthew and Alice; and one sister Katha (Lewis) Robards. She is preceded by her husband Charles “Pack” Powell; her parents; two brothers: Hollis Jr and John Kimmons; and sister Carol Kimmons.
