May 15, 1955 - December 31, 2020
Gladys Calloway Wiley, 65, of St. Augustine, passed away December 31, 2020, with her husband, daughters, and grandchildren by her side. She was born to the late Moses R. Calloway Jr. and Maggie Dillard Calloway Jones, May 15, 1955, in Lynchburg, Virginia. She was raised by her mother and the late Rev. Napoleon Jones. Gladys graduated from Lord Botetourt High School in 1973 and received a BA in Nursing from Old Dominion University in 1980. She selflessly dedicated 40 years to the medical field, tending to the needs of thousands. She was married to Travis Wiley in 1974, and they lived in several states, including Ohio, Northern Virginia, and California. They even made homes in Beijing, China, and Zushi, Japan, before settling in Florida. Gladys was a generous soul who brought joy to the lives of everyone she encountered. Creative and inquisitive, she loved to spend her free time crafting and sought adventure both far and near. The beach was her second home. She was also known for her wit and gregarious nature. She was a fan of Mary and Lifetime movies, but she could often be found lost in great books as well. Gladys was a maverick, a boss, and the very definition of love. Gladys is survived by three children and two grandchildren: Pamela Wiley, of New York City; Nikki Wiley, of Orlando; and Tanya Wiley, Lillian Wiley, and Layla Gill, of Orange Park. She is survived by seven brothers and sisters as well: Rev. Charles (Drema) Calloway, Barry Calloway, Carolyn (Thomas) Tucker, Barbara (Harry) Lewis, Gregory Jones, Barbara Jones, and Jesse Jones. She is also survived by aunts and uncles, a host of nieces and nephews, cousins, friends and neighbors. A viewing ceremony will be held on Thursday, January 07, 2020 at 10 a.m. at the St. John’s Funeral Home. A Celebration of Gladys’ life will begin at noon following the viewing.
