Gert Mae Gaster, formerly Gert Mae Goodman, age 92, of Daytona Beach Shores, died on October 20, 2021 at Orlando Regional Medical Center. She was born in Sanford, FL., grew up in Mt. Dora, FL. and graduated from Mt. Dora High School with the class of 1947. While in high school she met her husband to be, Robert S. “Bob” Goodman, and married him on June 19, 1947. Gert and Robert began their married life in the Mt. Dora / Eustis area, where she helped Robert co-found and operate Goodman Funeral Home in Tavares, FL. for many years. Gert was a wonderful wife, mother and homemaker and raised a family of three daughters. She seemed to have endless energy and was always active with the family business, her family, church and community. She also worked as a secretary for Martin Marietta in Orlando for 17 years. After her children were grown, Gert and Robert moved to Maggie Valley, NC in the mid 1980’s. After Robert passed away in 1990, Gert remained in Maggie Valley and later met and married Leonard Gaster. In 1994 Gert and Leonard moved to Pomona Park, Florida. Gert continued to lead a very active life. She was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church. She served as a Eucharistic minister, serving communion to the homebound, and assisting the priest by preparing the altar before Mass. She was past President of the Altar & Rosary Society. She was a member of Live Oak Golf & Country Club Women’s association. She has been living in Daytona Beach Shores for the past 9 years. Gert lived a full life and was loved by her family and friends. She will be deeply missed. She was preceded in death by her parents, William Brooke and Bertha Viola (Kinard) Harriett, first husband, Robert “Bob” Goodman, second husband, Leonard Gaster, brother, William L. Harriett, sister, Annie Myrle Adams, son, Robert Gary Goodman, and two sons in law, James Krammes & Arthur Porter. She is survived by her daughters, Gail Behan (Kevin) of Orlando, Ellen Krammes of Uniontown Ohio, Trisha Porter of Daytona Beach Shores; her brother, Billy L. Harriett (Loretta) of Lodge, South Carolina; brother in law, Wilton Adams of Mt. Dora, FL, grandchildren, Ericka Sexton (Phillip), Robert D. Mosley, Amber Ask, Lucas Krammes (Sarah), Candace Stanaland (Steven), Sarah Krammes, and 15 Great Grandchildren. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 am on Friday, October 29, 2021 at Corpus Christi Catholic Church with Father James May officiating. Interment will follow at San Lorenzo Cemetery. A visitation will be held from 5 to 7 pm on Thursday, October 28, 2021 at St. Johns Family Funeral Home. St. Johns Family Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
