Dorothy Arlene "Dixie" Bates

Dorothy Arlene "Dixie" Bates, age 80, of St. Augustine, passed away on June 13, 2022 at Community Hospice Center for Caring at Baptist Medical Center South in Jacksonville, FL. Dixie was born on September 15, 1941 in Denver, Colorado to parents, Robert & Helen Blackmon. Dixie grew up in Denver and graduated from East High School with the class of 1959, and met her husband to be, Jerry Bates, while living in Tennessee. Dixie was confident, fiery and independent. Her life was dedicated to her husband and children. She was a loving wife and mother and everyone seemed to rely on her strength. She had been a resident of St. Augustine since 1975 and enjoyed the beach, shopping and playing bridge with friends. She will be deeply missed. She is survived by her husband of 60 years, Jerry Bates of St. Augustine; a daughter, Kris Bates of St. Augustine; sons, Kipp Bates and spouse Maria of Colorado, Kent Bates of St. Augustine; and grandchildren, Alexis, Austin, Bryce, Cameron & Madi. St. Johns Family Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
