Carolyn Morgan Whitener passed away unexpectedly on July 5, 2021 at the age of 81 while she was on vacation in St Augustine, Florida. Carolyn was a retired Executive Secretary for The Keyes Co. Carolyn was born June 15, 1940 in Charlotte, North Carolina to the late PFC Thomas W. Morgan and Sarah Watts Morgan. Carolyn became a Gold Star Daughter at the age of four and was raised at The Methodist Children’s Home in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. Following high school graduation, Carolyn married William M. Whitener (Bill), a fellow resident at the Children’s Home. For the next twenty three years she was a military wife. While Bill was serving in Europe she and the family traveled the country and in 1971 settled in Homestead, Florida. Retirement and Hurricane Andrew would relocate her to Loxahatchee, Florida and after the death of her husband of 56 years, Bill, she would again resettle in Lutz, Florida. Carolyn was a member of the Ladies Sewing Ministry at First United Methodist Church of Land O’ Lakes where she crocheted mats for the homeless and stitched quilts for the sick. Carolyn was a devoted and loving mother to her children. She leaves behind four children, Kathy Spinella (Phil) of St. Petersburg, Florida, Kim Givens (Phil) of Palm City, Florida, Mike Whitener (Linda) of Midlothian, Texas, and Dawn Gilley (Roger) of Homestead, Florida, and a brother, Lee Barbee (Nancy) of Maryville, TN. She was preceded in death by a son Allen Whitener in 2009, and sister Brenda Ann Williams. Carolyn was the proud Grandmother to Justin, Kristina, Stephanie, Autumn, Stacie, Andrew, Cassandra, Leslie, Ashley, Travis, Jason, Raina, Ryan, Sarah and Jake. She was a Great Grandmother of 18. Funeral Services will be held at St Peters Methodist Church, 12200 Forrest Hill Boulevard, Wellington, Florida, Thursday the 15th of July at 12:30 pm where she was a long time member. Internment will be at the South Florida National Cemetery in Lake Worth immediately following the ceremony. The Place of Hope, a home for foster children and Operation 300 a camp for children of fallen military soldiers who have died in the line of duty.
