Wayne Lawrence Saunders

Wayne Lawrence Saunders passed triumphantly into eternity with our Lord Jesus on April 1, 2025, at the age of 57. Wayne’s love and faith touched the lives of all who knew him. The youngest of three, Wayne was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania to Theodore (Ted) and Thelma Saunders. The family moved to Longmont, Colorado when he was 4 years old. Wayne Attended Faith Baptist School for all his school years and graduated in 1985. During his high school years Wayne developed a love and passion for classic cars. He, his brother and his friends loved cruising Main Street in Longmont and helping at Bandemere Speedway and participating in the High School Drags. After high school Wayne followed in his father and brother’s footsteps when he joined the US Navy. He attended boot camp in San Diego, CA and was stationed at NAS Willow Grove, PA and NAS Jax, FL. Wayne was an Aviation Machinist Mate 2nd Class and worked on the P3 Orion anti-submarine aircraft. After the Navy, Wayne returned to northern Colorado and raised two beautiful daughters with his first wife Carrie Jo. In 2014, Wayne met the love of his life and was united in marriage with Jodi Hanke-Greenup on March 20, 2015, in Wellington, CO. Wayne made many meaningful relationships throughout his career in the trucking industry, which he loved. Wayne also had the opportunity to be an instructor for a truck driving program after his move to Florida, imparting his vast knowledge into the future generation of drivers. Wayne and Jodi fulfilled his long-time dream and moved to St. Augustine, FL in 2018. Wayne loved all the history and shared that love as a tour guide for the Red Train Tours. Wayne and Jodi became members of Church on the Rock, where Wayne passionately served as a greeter and on the transportation and prayer teams. In addition to Wayne’s love of family, history, the Navy, and classic cars, he also loved the ocean; but the most important love and passion of his life was his Lord and Savior, Jesus. Wayne was preceded in glory by his parents Ted and Thelma Saunders and his brother John Saunders, and many other dear relatives. Wayne is survived by his loving wife Jodi; his sister Lynn (Steve)Silvers; his daughters Casey (Eugene)Goree and Cadie (Cody)Huffaker and three “bonus” children: Casey (Wyatt)Allerheiligen, Cody (Diana)Greenup and Zack (Kyann)Greenup; grandchildren Cameron, Hayden, EJ, Colby, Cassadi, Maya, Solai, Kayson, Sawyer, Liam and Collin; nephews Alex (Hanna)Saunders, Joshua (Giselle)Saunders, Zack (Whitney)Silvers and great nephews James Bennett and Nolan Silvers; nieces Rhea (Jamie) Teasley-Bennett, Basil Macalister, and many cousins, aunts and uncles. Because of the many lives Wayne touched, there will be two Celebrations of Life: Saturday, April 12, 2025 @ 3pm – Church on the Rock 2995 Varella Ave, St. Augustine, FL 32084 – reception to follow Saturday, May 3, 2025 @ 11am – McC Ranch 12425 N Co Rd 27, Loveland, CO 80538 – reception to follow St. Johns Family Funeral Home and Crematory is in charge or arrangements.
