Walter Lawrence "Larry" Jackson

With heavy hearts and profound sadness, we bid farewell to a truly remarkable man, Mr. Walter Lawrence Jackson, affectionately known as "Larry." Larry's journey on this earth may have come to an end, but his legacy of faith, dedication, and love for God and country will forever endure in our hearts. Larry was born on March 8, 1943, to proud parents James Jackson and Sarah Smith. Throughout his life, he exemplified faith and devotion, instilled in him from an early age. Larry's spiritual journey was a cornerstone of his life, and he devoted himself wholeheartedly to the St. Augustine Church of Christ. For decades, he was an active and beloved member of the congregation, contributing his talents and unwavering commitment to the church's mission. Larry served in the United States Air Force as an Airman First Class and earned several commendations and decorations during his service time. Upon leaving the USAF, Larry moved on to a distinguished career as a Supervisor at Northrop Grumman, from which he retired after decades of dedicated service. His professional achievements reflected the same commitment and excellence that marked every aspect of his life. When away from work, Larry could be found playing or watching his favorite sports. An avid golfer, Larry found solace and camaraderie on the green. Whether it was family golf competitions or Grumman golf leagues, good times could always be found at the golf course. He was also an avid fisherman and loved spending time on the lake with family and friends. As he moved into retirement age, his passion shifted more from playing sports to watching his grandchildren play. Larry never missed an opportunity to be on the sidelines cheering as their biggest fans. As devoted to his grandchildren as he was, he was even more devoted to his Lord. His walk and constant service were a source of inspiration to all who knew him. From years of both behind-the-scenes audio/visual work to giving devotionals and prayers, Larry could always be counted on as a humble servant for the Lord. It is because of this devotion that we are assured he has now claimed his crown of life. (James 1:12) A celebration of his life will take place at 10 a.m. Thursday September 21, 2023, at the St. Augustine Church of Christ. Following services, guests may stay for a luncheon at the church’s fellowship hall. Interment with military honors will follow at 2:30 p.m. at Jacksonville National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting donations be made to support Larry's 15-year-old great-niece, Kenley Commins. Kenley is currently battling lymphoma. Donations can be made at any Fifth Third Bank to the "Kick it Kenley" account or to her Venmo fundraising account Venmo | kenley Commins Larry is survived by his devoted wife of 49 years, Vicki Jackson, whose unwavering support and love were a constant source of strength throughout their journey together. He is also survived by his loving family: Daughter, Debbie Schroeder and husband Wade of St. Augustine; Daughter, Lynda Mobley and husband Aaron of St. Augustine; Daughter, Lisa Hines of Sanford; Daughter, Karen Cook of Denton, Texas; Son, Daniel Jackson of St. Augustine; Brother, James Donald Jackson, and wife Jeri of Macclenny, FL; brother-in-law, Doug Prevost of Thomson, GA; sister-in-law, Pat Jackson of New Orleans, LA; sister, Debi Rideman, and husband Ron of St. Augustine; and sister-in-law Kathy Jackson of Rayville, LA. In addition, he leaves behind numerous & beloved grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. Larry was preceded in death by his parents, James Jackson and Sarah Smith, his beloved sister, Judy Prevost, his beloved brothers, Blaine & David Jackson, as well as his son, Christopher Alan Jackson. Larry's warm smile, his kindness, and his unwavering faith were a source of inspiration to all who had the privilege of knowing him. He leaves behind a legacy of faith, devotion, and love that will forever remind us of the true essence of a life well-lived. May he rest in eternal peace, knowing that his legacy will continue to inspire and guide us all. St. Johns Family Funeral Home and Crematory is in charge of arrangements.
