Susan Ann Cournia

Susan Ann Cournia (née Blackburn), 76, passed away peacefully on July 7, 2026, surrounded by the love of her family. Born in Milwaukee on March 30, 1950, Susan spent most of her life in the area, including years in Menomonee Falls and Whitefish Bay, before spending her last few years in Saint Johns, Florida. She built a meaningful life, raised her family, and touched many lives in her communities. In her final moments, she was comforted by her daughter, Renee (Dwight) Larkin, and her son, Tony (Chelsea) Cournia, who were by her side as she went to rest. Susan's life was defined by a strong work ethic and a great love for people. She spent her early career working in the restaurant industry where everyone knew her as lil' Suzy. She was the consummate host and never met a stranger. She would always remember everyone's name and their special dates and her innate hospitality made everyone feel like family. Before transitioning into retail. Later in life, she brought her characteristic energy to her community, balancing her role as a welcoming hostess at a local restaurant in Whitefish Bay while simultaneously running her Stitches by Sue side business as a skilled tailor and seamstress. Though petite in stature, Susan possessed a wonderfully spunky personality and a huge heart. As a proud Wisconsin native, she was a lifelong fan of the Green Bay Packers, cheering for them almost as enthusiastically as she cheered from the sidelines of her grandchildren's various sporting events. She was an adventurous soul who loved to travel, especially beach vacations with friends that, while rare, were deeply cherished, creating beautiful memories filled with laughter and sunshine. She was a loving mother and a deeply cherished grandmother who always looked for ways to lift others up, whether she was donating her time to help out at the local church fish fry or baking her signature cakes to surprise her coworkers. She found great pride in sharing her home-baked treats and creativity with everyone around her. Her greatest joy in life was her family. She leaves behind her five beloved grandchildren: Connor, Grace, and Quinn Larkin (children of Renee and Dwight), and Oliver and Greyson Cournia (children of Tony and Chelsea), who will forever carry her love, warmth, and spunky spirit in their hearts. Her presence, kindness, and gentle strength will be missed by everyone who knew her. An intimate gravesite service will be held on Tuesday, August 4, 2026, at 11:00 AM at St. Joseph Cemetery, 4152 Loretto Rd, Jacksonville, FL 32223. The Cournia and Larkin families wish to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the staff at The Terrace of Jacksonville and Community Hospice for the gentle care, dignity, and compassion they provided to Susan in her final years. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made toward a permanent memorial marker for Susan at St. Joseph Cemetery.
