Steven Perei

It is with a heavy heart that we announce the passing of Steven Perei, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and entrepreneur. Born on October 21, 1933, Gyoma, Hungary, Steven peacefully passed away on June 29, 2023, St. Augustine, Fl 2023 at the Bailey Family Center for Caring surrounded by his family leaving behind an impressive legacy of love, hard work, and tenacity. Steven is survived by his wife, Lilian Perei, who fondly refers to him as her 'Pista’. Their love story began in 1961 and has been an inspiration to many over the years. He also leaves behind his children, Lisa de Ravel, Steven Perei Jr., and Lorraine Cheney, as well as his cherished granddaughters, Nicole and Stephanie de Ravel, and Alina Perei. As well as nephew Zolt Molnar and family in Hungary. Known for his love of a limited selection of good food, Steven's favorites included Duck, BBQ, Cherries, and Key Lime Pie. A man of many interests, he was fond of joke books and always looked forward to watching his beloved sports teams, especially the Giants. He had an eternal love for the music of Frank Sinatra, particularly the classic "My Way." When he wasn't hard at work in his successful real estate and construction business, Steven enjoyed functional exercise, always living by the motto, "move it or lose it". He loved vacationing in Vermont and Budd Lake, NJ. Cherishing a strong work ethic and treating others with respect were important life lessons he shared with those around him. Steven was remembered for his witty one liners, strong, and prompt personality. He was productive and a family provider till the end, working in his business until 2 weeks before his passing. His favorite movies, "A Summer Place" and "The Godfather", reflect his appreciation for compelling narratives and strong character arcs. Steven's legacy is a testament to his belief that with tenacity and hard work, one can accomplish anything you set out to do...the epitome of the “American Dream.” As a Political Refugee arriving in NYC in 1957, his caring heart was evident in his concern for the Assistance and Protection of Refugees. In lieu of flowers, a fund has been set up for "Alight" at https://everloved.com/life-of/steven-perei/donate/. He will be sorely missed by his bride of 63 years and his 'flock of chickadees'. His enduring spirit will forever be remembered, and his lessons will continue to guide those he loved. The immediate family will hold a private celebration of life. St. Johns Family Funeral Home and Crematory oversees arrangements.
