Sandra Jane Winkler

It is with great honor and pleasure that we announce the graduation of Sandra Jane Winkler into the shared seat of our Lord Jesus Christ at the right hand of our Father’s throne on February 28, 2024. Sandra is the youngest of three daughters of Nettie and Cecil Potts and grew up in Los Angeles County, California. She graduated from high school in 1957 and entered the life of hard knocks immediately thereafter. She traveled and lived near and far from her birthplace to the most sought-after locations, including Honolulu, HI; Henderson, NV; Gardiner, NY; and finally settling in St. Augustine, FL in 2017. Born with a quick wit and creative mind, there is not a single character along the journey whom she did not love, inspire, talk with, and pour into. She is a master joke-teller and hilarious prankster. She commands the stage with her perfectly tanned tone, gentle voice, infectious laugh, piercing blue eyes that reveal the beauty of heaven, captivating smile, colorfully bright and cheerful attire, and long, ultra-blond locks that float in the wind. Being fond of sharing the majesty of heaven and the good news of our Lord, she often entertained children and adults alike in her daily encounters, whether it be correcting drivers’ misunderstanding of cross-walk etiquette, urgently warning co-workers of dueling approaches of oncoming semi-tractors on the highway during times of installation of traffic sensors, stopping hotels from floating away during flooding, fending off would-be thieves, running mini-farms, winning beauty contests, standing up for the oppressed, playing dress-up, riding her bicycle downhill—full-speed ahead—to catch a runaway hamburger for a hungry soul, braking for pink flamingos, preparing surprise birthday celebrations, wrestling with puppies, or serving the community through church ministries. Although she was always unpretentious about her gift of sharing the compassion and acceptance of the Father's plan of Salvation, she found immense joy and purpose in bringing these gifts and talents to others. She has an innumerable company of spiritual children as a result. Her memory will live on in the hearts of her beloved family, as well as all those she cherishes, whose lives she graced, made light, and gave hope by being. We laughed; we cried. We would not change a single thing about her legacy and the beautifully woven tapestry the Lord God created through her. A masterpiece of unparalleled majesty! Sandra is survived by her cousins Marlene, Pamela, Steven, Randy, Cheryl, and Arnie; nieces Robin, Veronica, Faith, Kimberly, Amber, Mary, and Jeanine, and nephew Jeffrey; grand-nieces LaNiece, Jolie, Samantha, Felicia, Leann, Brooke-Lynn, Leah, Rachael, Amanda, and grand-nephews DeVon, Jeffrey, Jr., Kelvin, Nathaniel, Matthew, Jonathan, Ikaika, Malu, Andrew, and Aiden; great grand-niece Kelani, Melissa, and great grand-nephews DeVon, Jr., Theo, Garrett, Liam, and Dominic; first cousins once removed Tamera, Lisa, Bobby, Teresa; first cousins twice removed Amanda, Audrey, Bobby, Brent, Christopher, Jake, Jessica, Josephine, Katelynn, Kourtney, Olivia, Ryan, and Stephanie; and first cousins three times removed Ella, Evan, Harper, Hattie, and Maya. She was predeceased by her parents, Nettie and Cecil, sisters Linda and Sharon, and nieces Deborah and Dori, nephews Ernie, Jr., and Butch; and grand-niece Nichole.
