Rosa Preslar

Rosa Preslar, age 81, of St. Augustine, passed away on March 26, 2024 at Baptist Medical Center in Jacksonville, FL. Rosa was born on July 12, 1942 in San Juan to parents Emilio and Octovia Martinez. She grew up in San Juan and moved to the US with her family when she was 9 years old, settling in Lakewood, New Jersey. She met the love of her life, Spessard Preslar, through and introduction by Spessard's sister who was a friend of Rosa. It was love at first sight! Spessard was so smitten with Rosa, all he could manage to say was: "would you like a piece of cheeze?". That question would become a source of family Jokes from then on. Rosa married Spessard on November 25, 1961 and they began their married life in Lakewood. Rosa raised a family of 4 children and worked in a factory for 20 years. She loved taking care of others and her family was the center of her universe. She was loving and giving but could also be blunt and "tell it to you straight." Rosa enjoyed walking and hiking with her daughter and her rottweilers. She truly lived life to the fullest. Rosa was a free spirit and loved to laugh, dance and listen to good music. She enjoyed dressing up and going out on the town. More than anything in life, she loved her family and gladly put their needs before her own. She will be deeply missed. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Brenda, her brother, Candy, sister Ramona and sister in law, Sonia Martinez. She is survived by her husband of 62 years, Spessard Preslar of St. Augustine; her daughter, Marie Wyatt (Mitchell) of Jacksonville; sons, Anthony Preslar and Ricky Preslar, both of St Augustine; brothers, Emilio Martinez of Vineland, NJ, Michael Martinez of Toms River, NJ, and grandchildren, Azhley Byers, Denzel Preslar, Emilio Wyatt, Richard Preslar, Jr., Damian Preslar, Brandon Preslar, Devon Preslar, Thomas Guffey, Benjamin Guffey, Stephanie Guffey, Christina Guffey, Cody Raynor and many beloved extended family members. A private family funeral service will be held. St. Johns Family Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
