Dr. Richard Paul Johnson passed away peacefully at his home on May 28, 2024, at the age of 77. Born on March 14, 1947, in Uniontown, PA, Richard was the son of Melford and Anna Johnson. Richard's life was marked by a deep commitment to service and healing. He graduated from Northwestern University and dedicated his career to supporting veterans as a psychiatrist with Veteran Affairs. His compassionate care touched the lives of many, leaving a lasting impact on those he served. A devout member of St. Anastasia Catholic Church, Richard found solace and strength in his faith. He was also a member of Alcoholics Anonymous. Beyond his professional and spiritual pursuits, Richard lived a rich and varied life. He found joy in exploring the depths of the ocean as an avid scuba diver. His love for the natural world extended to his interests in plants, particularly orchids, succulents, and bonsai. He was a lover of animals and proud owner of three dogs. Richard was a collector with diverse passions, from clocks and watches to pipes, toy trains, and rifles. His enthusiasm for discovery and exploration knew no bounds, whether travelling the world or simply enjoying a leisurely day of shopping. Richard's legacy of love and generosity lives on through his family. He is survived by his devoted wife of seven years, Claire B. Johnson, and his cherished children, Kate F. Pimental, Nicole R. Pimental, and Mary J. Pimental. He is also remembered fondly by his brother, Randall Johnson, his sister-in-law, Pamela Morrow Johnson, niece, Holly Johnson Montejano and nephew, Jeremy Elton Johnson. Richard was preceded in death by his parents, Anna Ruth Landymore and Melford Johnson. Visitation will be held on Monday, June 3rd from 4-6 p.m. with Vigil Prayers beginning at 4 p.m. at St. Johns Family Funeral Home, 385 SR 207 St. Augustine, FL 32084. A Celebration of Life will follow the visitation on Monday from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at Bin 39 Wine Bar, 4 St. George Street, St. Augustine, FL. Drinks and light refreshments will be provided. Beer and wine will be available for purchase. Nearest Parking: The Historic Downtown Parking Facility — 1 Cordova Street Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, June 4th at 9 a.m. at St. Anastasia Catholic Church, 5205 A1A S. St. Augustine, FL 32080. In lieu of flowers and in honor of Richard's passion for the ocean and marine life, memorial contributions can be made to the Coral Reef Alliance.
