Phillip Joseph "Buddy" Haynes July 7, 1950 - May 20, 2011 MSG Phillip "Buddy" Haynes, (US Army Ret), 60, died May 20, 2011 at Halifax Medical Center in Daytona. He was born in St. Augustine and lived here most of his life before moving to Palm Coast in 2003. Buddy retired from the U.S Army and the Florida Army National guard after serving his country honorably for 28 years. He was a veteran of Vietnam and during his career he was the recipient of the following awards, the Bronze Star Medal with combat distinguished device "V", Purple Heart, Army Commendation Medal (2nd Award), Army Achievement Medal (2nd Award), Army Good Conduct Medal (5th Award), National Defense Service Medal (2nd Award), Army (Retired) Lapel Button, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, Vietnam Service Medal with 1 Bronze Service Star, Noncommissioned Officer's Professional Development Ribbon with numeral 3, Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon (2nd Award), and the Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal with 60 Device. Buddy was a man with a big heart and always strived to make others happy. His happiest days were filled with singing and tending his flowers and garden, as well as cooking. He was a great lover of animals. Memorial services will be held 5:00 PM Wednesday June 1, 2011 at St. Johns Family Funeral Home with Rev. Timothy Lozier officiating. Visitation will continue until 6:30 PM followed by the rendering of full military honors by the U.S. Army Honor Guard. In lieu of flowers donations can be made in his memory to the Sisters of St. Joseph, PO Box 3506, St. Augustine, FL 32085, Vets 4 Vets of St. Johns County Inc., or to the St. Augustine Humane Society. He was preceded in death by his beloved son, Nicholas Haynes. He is survived by his wife and soulmate, Laurelle Haynes, Palm Coast; step-children, Michelle White, Clearwater, Judd Hawley, Hastings; grandchildren, Michael and Chloe; sister, Mary Wanda Borum, brothers, Charles and Rudy Haynes of St. Augustine and Ralph Haynes of New York. He is also survived by numerous other relatives, friends, colleagues from the Army and Florida National Guard, and his beloved pets. The family would like to extend a special Thank You to the Florida National Guard, the Veterans Affairs Office of St. Augustine, and Doctors and Administration of the St. Augustine VA Clinic.
