Peter Neil Betterman

Peter Neil Betterman, 79, of Indialantic, Fl passed away Sunday, August 25, 2019 at his son’s residence in St. Augustine, Fl. Peter was born on April 2, 1940 in Cambridge, England to the late Leslie and Marjorie Betterman. Peter began his career in Cambridge, England where he earned his apprenticeship degree in engineering. He was not the ideal student but he had a brilliant mind for math. He met and married the mother of his son at the age of 22 and they bravely immigrated to the United Stated at the young age of 26. He stared working for a company in Georgia and then moved to California where his son, Michael, was born. While their son was still a very young child, He moved his family again to Missouri and then to Orlando where Peter began work for Lockheed Martin. He retired as an Aerospace Engineer holding many positions including leading multiple missile development teams. He loved taking on leadership positions with large groups solving complex problems. He loved the United States and every opportunity he was provided but he never lost the love of his home in the UK, he was a true patriot. Some years after moving to Orlando, he met and fell in love with his wife, Gayle, and they lived a very good life together. After retirement, he found another love restoring English cars from his youth and attending car shows. He loved the machinery aspect of restoration and the fellowship of the car club community. But most of all he loved his son and left all he knew to provide the best life for his family and the adventure of it all. He leaves to cherish his memory his son, Michael Betterman and spouse, Nancy Merchan; granddaughters, Victoria and Amanda; brother, Terry Betterman and spouse, Janet; stepchildren, Laura and Shawn. He is preceded in death by his wife, Gayle of 27 years, step daughter, Gina and mother of his son, Janice. A celebration of Peter’s life will be 10 A.M. Saturday, September 14, 2019 at Oasis at Conway Gardens Church, 1900 Conway Gardens Rd, Orlando, FL 32806. He will be laid to rest in the UK which was his final wishes. St. Johns Family Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
