Penelope Lynn McCormick

Penelope Lynn (Waldorf) McCormick, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and a shining light in the community of St. Augustine, passed peacefully on July 19, 2025. Born outside Milwaukee, WI in 1943 to Dorothy Falk and Ronald Waldorf, Penelope met William Charles (Bill) McCormick in Tomahawk, WI, dated Bill at the University of Wisconsin, married in 1963, and the two have been together for the last 62 years. She is survived by Bill, daughter Erin, sons Liam and Ryan, daughters-in-law Mariana and Elise, and seven grandchildren: Parker (3), Nicolas (4), Piper (5), Aidan (15), Gabriella (17), Jessie (22), and Rae (26). Penelope (or Penny) will be remembered for her work teaching English as a Second Language in Gainesville, FL and Houston, TX; her leadership of the Gainesville Junior Woman's Club during the launch of the Girl's Club of Alachua County; her involvement with the St. Augustine chapter of the Sister Cities Association; her political activism and passion for the environment; and her volunteer work with the Woman’s Exchange of St. Augustine and the South Anastasia Communities Association (SACA). Her grandchildren kept her busy for the past 26 years, collecting sea glass, swimming in the ocean, rescuing sea turtles, baking cookies, and dolphin and whale watching. They will remember her for her delicious recipes, love of literature and animals, her warm and comfortable home, and her tenderness and devotion to loved ones. She was a spiritual beacon in her family, and her faith in God never wavered. She is preceded in death by her son, Jason Michael, and sister, Nancy Waldorf, who await her in heaven. A private funeral service for Penelope will take place at Prairie Creek Conservation Cemetery near Payne’s Prairie State Park outside of Gainesville, FL. A sunset Celebration and joyful Remembrance for friends and family will be held on Saturday, July 26 at 7:30 p.m. at the Community Pier in the Ocean Palms neighborhood of Saint Augustine, FL.
