Patricia Ann Schmidt

Patricia Ann Schmidt August 24, 1928 - July 31, 2011 Patricia Ann Schmidt, 82, St. Augustine, died July 31, 2011 at Moultrie Creek Nursing and Rehab Center after a long and courageous battle with cancer. She was born in Oskaloosa, Iowa and had resided here in St. Augustine since 2008, moving here from St. Mark's Village in Palm Harbor. She was a retired real estate broker and bookkeeper. In St. Augustine Patricia was a member of the Red Hat Society, a volunteer with Habitat for Humanity, a facilitator with the Caregiver Support Group at St. Johns County Council on Aging, attended Pilgrim Church and was a member of the United Church of Christ-Congregational in Ames, Iowa, having served as a deacon. While in Iowa she was a volunteer with the Mary Greeley Medical Center Oncology Department and hospitality shop, Meals on Wheels, a member of the YEWS support group, and she also served as a grief counselor at McFarland Clinic. One of her greatest gifts was her ability to befriend those in need, whether they were friends or complete strangers. She will be greatly missed by all of those whose lives she touched. A casual celebration of her life will be held 2:00 PM Wednesday August 3, 2011 at Pilgrim Church with Dick Glessner officiating. Interment services will be held at a later date at Ames Municipal Cemetery in Ames, Iowa. Flowers are gratefully declined and those wishing may make a contribution in her memory to Community Hospice of NE Florida. She is survived by her three children, Larry Fortney, Ocala, Harry (Raylene) Fortney, Kelley, Iowa, Terri (Anders) Johansson, St. Augustine; two sisters, Jacqueline Ide, Boston, MA, Jamie Legvold, Oskaloosa, Iowa; grandchildren, Laura Fortney, Ryan Fortney, Alissa Zugay; and two great-grandchildren, Jonathan and Kaitlyn Zugay. She was preceded in death by her husband, Malcolm Schmidt, sister, Harriet "Honey Lou" Bowen, a grandson, Nicholas Fortney, and companion, Clifford Love. Patricia's family would like to extend their appreciation to Community Hospice of NE Florida, the Bailey Center, and Moultrie Creek Nursing and Rehab Center for their loving care given to their mother. St. Johns Family Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
