Nicholas John Whitinger

Nicholas John Whitinger passed away unexpectedly on June 19, 2024, at the age of 43. Nicholas was born to John Elwood Whitinger and Maryann “Annie” Whitinger on May 26, 1981, in Lansing, Michigan. He attended pre-school and elementary school in Walla Walla, Washington, and high school in Florida. Nick loved cities- San Francisco, Seattle, Portland, OR, Las Vegas, Denver, Ft. Lauderdale, Miami and St. Augustine. He loved Colorado and Alaska, hiking and mountain climbing in both states with his sister, Lisa Renee’. Nick was most recently employed by Traffic Materials Systems, and PreForm, in St. Augustine, and was proud to be promoted to Chemist by his mentor and boss, Alex. He worked in a lab running many different tests, creating colors, and meeting buyers from other states to explain standards. He greatly enjoyed the camaraderie of the factory at PreForm and working with Rob, and returned often to work overtime. His contagious laugh, super smart, funny and caring, positive personality, will be remembered fondly by the gals and guys who worked with him. He was a real genuine guy who lit up the room. Growing up he had many wonderful adventures with his Aunt Sharon and cousins his age, Josh and Nate, in Washington and Oregon, including cub scouting, camping at Mt. Hood, exploring tide pools at Canton Beach, and swimming and picnics at parks and lakes. He was proud of his 2013 Cadillac Coupe, helping with projects for his Mom at Juniper Sands Park, and his significant other, Chey Amber Messer in Green Cove Springs. He is survived by his father, John (Sue) Whitinger; mother, Annie Swick Johnson; stepfather, Ted Johnson; sister, Lisa (Matt) Renee Johnson; nephews, Jake and Brett Johnson; significant other, Chey Amber Messer; step-brothers, Bryan (Karen) Sweaney, Dan (Jason) Sweaney; Aunt Sharon (David) Steele and their family; Aunt Sue (Howard) Durling and their family; many first and second cousins and their families from the Whitinger family. He was predeceased by his paternal grandparents, Elwood and Eunice Whitinger; maternal grandparents, Jack and Fran Swick; five loving Whitinger aunts, Lucille Tuckey, Wilma (Norm) Campbell, Marion Whitinger, Leila Whitinger, Linda (Matt) Silvas and their families.
