Nancy G. Capo

Nancy G. Capo February 18, 1928 - October 7, 2013 Nancy Harriet Glass Capo died at her home on October 7, 2013 surrounded by her loving family and beloved dog Lucy Bell. Nancy was born on February 28, 1928 in Hamilton, Montana the first child of Thomas R. Glass and Marion T Collins. She grew up on a cattle ranch in the Bitterroot Valley of Montana. Later she moved to San Francisco where she met and married her husband André Tamarua Cowan in 1947. They moved to Saint Augustine where their children were born and Andre' was one of the first porpoise trainers at the former Marine Studios. She moved with her family to Andre's native home, Papeete, Tahiti where he died in 1961 and then returned with her children to Saint Augustine. In 1962 she married Ronald Victor (Ronnie) Capo. Nancy was ahead of her time when, in 1963, she bought the Vagabond's House and it became an iconic St. George Street gift shop, known to all long time residents. She and Ronnie operated it successfully for over 30 years. In her retirement, she was an active volunteer at the St. Johns Public Library and a member the Amputee Talks Shop group. Her husband Ronnie died in 1997 after 35 happily married years. She is survived by one brother, Thomas R. Glass (Carol) of Boise ID; children, Katherine Melchiorre (Tom) of Wildwood Crest, N.J., Jack A. Cowan of Seattle, WA. and Tiare Cowan Moss of Vilano Beach, Donald Capo (Jan) and Robert Capo (Kathy), all of Saint Augustine; grandchildren, Dominic Mechiorre (Natalie) and Anthony Melchiorre of Wildwood Crest, N.J., Michael Reynolds (Kristy), Katherine (Katie) Reynolds and Andrew Reynolds, all of St. Augustine and great grandchildren, Sebastian, Aiden and Mason Reynolds, her dearest best friend, Merrill (Pat) Wolfe and her beloved dog, Lucy Bell. She was predeceased by her children Barbara Capo Thrower Ezelle, Billy Capo and Sidney Capo. Nancy taught her children to love books and was an avid reader throughout her life. She started each day with the St. Augustine Record and was a listener-supporter of National Public radio. She loved her adopted home of St. Augustine and enjoyed the 5 decades spent in her Vilano Beach home. A celebration of her life will be held at 1:00pm Saturday, October 12th at Creekside Dinery . In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in her name to the Friends of the Library of St. Johns County 1960 Ponce DeLeon Blvd St. Augustine, Florida 32084. St. Johns Family Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
