Mary Tsannis Brokas

Mary Tsannis Brokas June 22, 1924 - January 25, 2015 Mary 'Marika' Tsannis Brokas, 90, of Keystone Heights, passed away peacefully at The Pavilion at Penney Farms, on Sunday, January 25, 2015. She was born in Akron, Ohio on June 22, 1924. She and her family settled in Keystone Heights in the 1950's. She was predeceased by her husband of 59 years, Alex Xavier Brokas, in 2005 and is survived by two daughters, Dianne Leath (George), Keystone Heights, FL, Christine Brokas, Tallahassee, FL, two sons, Stefan Brokas (Celeste), Keystone Heights, FL , Mickey Brokas (Nora), Duluth, GA; five grandchildren, Marieka Allen (Trevor), Stefanie Brokas, Alexis Barnie (David), Nikolas Brokas (Stasia), Missy Brokas; and two great grandsons, TJ and Trent Allen. She is also survived by her only sister, Billie Tibbals, Akron, OH. She lived a very full life as a devoted wife, caring mother, grandmother and good friend. She spent many of her years as a homemaker. In the late 60's she went to work for the Clay County School System retiring in 1986. During that time she received her AA Degree from Santa Fe Community College. She enjoyed tennis and golf and was a sports enthusiast, an avid Florida State fan and loved Tennis Professional Roger Federer. She was an active member of St. Anne's Episcopal Church for 50 plus years until such time as it was dissolved. She was the first female lay reader at St. Anne's and the first woman to serve as Senior Warden on the Vestry. She also served on the Altar Guild, sang in the choir, and was the organist and Parish Administrator. She volunteered countless hours using her many talents and spiritual gifts. She then moved her membership to Trinity Episcopal Church where she continued to volunteer at the church office. She was a member of The Daughters of the King and very dedicated and devoted to her church families. A memorial service will be held at 3:00 P.M. Sunday, February 1, 2015, at Trinity Episcopal Church, 204 Highway 26, Melrose, FL with The Rev. Tony Powell and The Rev. Harold L. Ritchie conducting the services. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to Community Hospice of Northeast Florida, c/o Donations, 4266 Sunbeam Road, Jacksonville, FL 32257. St. Johns Family Funeral Home and Crematory in St. Augustine, FL. is in charge of arrangements.
