Marie Ladebauche Rieck

Marie Ladebauche Rieck, age 61, of St. Augustine, passed away peacefully on November 26, 2022 at the Bailey Family Center for Caring. Marie was born and raised in Spartanburg, South Carolina, growing up the youngest of five children. She attended St. Paul’s Catholic School and Spartanburg High School. After finishing high school a year early, Marie worked for Bellsouth before heading off to the University of South Carolina. Marie graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing and spent 6 years treating psych patients and working as a Surgical Nurse assisting in the operating room. As her interest progressed, Marie went back to school and earned a Masters in Public Health from the University of South Carolina and transitioned into a marketing role for Providence Hospital. For the past 6 years, Marie worked in community relations with Community Hospice of NE Florida. Marie married Stephen Rieck on June 16, 1990. Together, they raised two wonderful children, Katherine and Brian. Marie always said that the most important thing she did in life was staying home to raise her children. She always treasured her memories of their time spent together relaxing on long summer days. A woman of many talents, Marie brought beauty into the world through her painting. She enjoyed bike riding and fishing on the intracoastal. She was an active member of Ebenezer Lutheran Church in Columbia, SC and was currently a member of Trinity Episcopal Parish in St. Augustine. Marie will be remembered as a wonderful person who always made time for those along her path and maintained a positive outlook on life no matter the circumstances. Her light shined bright and she will be deeply missed. She was preceded in death by her parents, Joe and Pauline. She is survived by her husband, Stephen Rieck; a daughter and son in law, Katherine & Kevin Ketner of Atlanta, GA; a son, Brian C. Rieck of Duluth, GA; sisters, Donna Wharton of Mechanicsburg, PA, Denise Thomas of Spartanburg, S.C., Mary Jo Fleischman and her husband Jim of Spartanburg, S.C.; and a brother, Paul Ladebauche of Charlotte, NC. A gathering of family and friends to celebrate Marie’s life will be held from 5 to 7pm on Friday, December 2, 2022 at St. Johns Family Funeral Home. A memorial service will follow at 11 am on Saturday, December 3, 2022 at Trinity Episcopal Church. In lieu of flowers, her family has requested that donations be made to the Council on Aging, 180 Marine Street, St. Augustine, FL 32084 or online at www.coasjc.org/donate in Marie's honor.
