Marcia Kay Winters September 7, 1942 - March 6, 2010 Marcia Kay Winters (Shors) of Ponte Vedra Beach, FL was born to eternal life 6 March 2010 at the age of 67. Cherished wife of Gerald R.Winters. Beloved daughter of Mrs. Marjorie Shors (Jacksonville) and the late Edwin W. Shors. Dear mother of Michele L. Murray (Jacksonville) and Captain Terrence E. Culton, USN ret. (Helen) (Chesapeake, VA). Beloved grandmother of Dylan and Danielle Murray; Mary Catherine, Andrew, Sarah and Margaret Culton. Sister of E. Clayton Shors, Ph.D (Suzie) of CA and Tracey J. Shors, Ph.D of NJ. Aunt of Mark Shors and Jessica Shors, Ph.D and Evan Shors Matzel. Fondly remembered by Atty. Jerri Lynn Ryan (Dr. Timothy), Terri Borst (Richard), Dr. Griff Winters, Glen Winters, and Guy Winters (Pam), all of Illinois. Beloved grandmother of Erin and Lauren Borst, Blake, Kaitlyn and Jack Winters, Gage and Makenzie Winters of Grayslake, IL. Sister-in-Law of Bonnie Rockenbach (Douglas) of Grayslake, IL and Mark Winters (Helen) of CA. After several years as a Navy spouse, 7 different schools and nearly 15 years later, she graduated from Northern Illinois University (BS Education) and later the National College of Education (MS Education Administration). In the late 70's and early 80's Marcia was a general and special education teacher in the Grayslake IL and Libertyville IL school systems. In the 90's she was the director of the Jacksonville EXCEL special Education Program. Her passion for children was evident every day as she worked one-on-one to help them not only academically, but also to make sure their social and emotional needs were met. Upon retirement as a teacher and administrator, she served as a Guardian ad Litum for the State of Florida and St John's County where she steadfastly served as an advocate for children in the court system. In her off time she also served as a volunteer on the Ponte Vedra Beach Volunteer Rescue Squad and as President of the South Ponte Vedra Homeowners Association. Marcia's work ethic, passion, and dedication to children distinguished her as a very special educator and person who truly made a difference in all the lives she touched. Survived by many dear relatives and friends, we are all blessed that she brought us all together as a family. It was her thinking of others that will always make us think of her. May her kind consideration of others be her legacy She is born to eternal life, pain free and whole. She will see the face of Jesus and we will see her again. Memorial service in the Jacksonville area is planned for a later date. Memorial contributions in lieu of flowers to American Cancer Society and Community Hospice of Northeast Florida. St. Johns Family Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
