Laurie Hellier Janz

Laurie Hellier Janz, 63 the youngest daughter of George and Audrey Hellier, for more than four years fought the battle to cure an aggressive cancer with no success. Laurie finally died peacefully at home on Christmas Eve December 24, 2023, in St. Augustine, Florida with her husband Robert, family, and loved ones at her side. Laurie, with her birth in 1960, Smyrna, Tennessee became part of an active Military Family. Consequently, at a very early age she and her two sisters were travelers which included a stay of four years in Tokyo, Japan. During her life time, Laurie was a very active person. In 1972 her family moved back to St. Augustine, Florida. Laurie entered St. Augustine High School graduating in 1978. Then proceeded to graduate from the University of Florida, she also attended the Florida college of Medical and Dental assistants of Jacksonville. Laurie was very active in the Church activities and enjoyed teaching the principles of Christianity to all especially the middle school age children. They loved her ability to demonstrate and explain the passages set forth in the Bible. She also was a Leader and Member of BSF Bible classes, and she loved our Lord Jesus Christ! Laurie was a Dental Assistant for many years. She worked with the Salvation Army, the Christian Coalition Center and the Christian Service Center. In 1981 Laurie and Robert Janz were united in marriage at the Episcopal Church located in downtown Saint Augustine, followed by a beautiful reception at the Ponce, motel. They enjoyed a happy marriage for 43 years as observed by all. Laurie’s greatest joy came from spending time with the family and grandchildren. She loved our yearly mountain trip to North Carolina over the past 40 years. She enjoyed our many cruises with our family and she loved playing cards and cooking dinner on Sunday afternoons with her mom and dad. May God always bless Laurie and help us with the loss of such a wonderful person. Laurie is survived by her husband, Robert; her father, George Hellier of Saint Augustine Fl; her sons, Joshua of Ocoee, Fl and Caleb of Saint Augustine Fl; daughters-in-law, Sherri Waston Janz of Ocoee, Fl and Ashley Whitfield Janz of Saint Augustine Fl; her two sisters, Linda Hellier Kinlaw of Fayetteville, NC and Jane Hellier Wolfe of Boone, NC; 4 grand children, Logan, Raiden, Terra and Elijah. We will all miss Laurie, but now she is at peace with our Lord, Jesus Christ.
