Joyce Koenig McCormick

Joyce (Fluharty) Koenig McCormick, age 96, of Palm Coast, passed away peacefully on March 13, 2024 surrounded by family at Stewart F. Meyer Hospice House in Palm Coast, FL. Joyce was born on January 23, 1928 in Washington, DC to parents Walter Howard and Ada (McKay) Fluharty. At the age of nine, Joyce and her parents relocated to Silver Hill, Maryland. At 19 years of age, Joyce was working at Chesapeake & Potomac Telephone Company when she was swept off her feet by fellow employee and returning WWII USMC Veteran Joseph W. Koenig, Jr. Joyce and Joe married on December 6, 1947. They started their married and family life in Washington, D.C. and moved to Delray Beach, FL. in 1956. Joyce was a dedicated homemaker and raised a family of 7 children. In addition to Delray Beach, Joe and Joyce also lived in Jacksonville, Rockledge and West Palm Beach, Florida during Joe's telecommunications career. In 1977, they moved to Hendersonville, NC after Joe's retirement from Southern Bell. Joe preceded Joyce in death in 2001. Joyce married Harold McCormick in 2007 and they moved to St. Augustine, one of Joyce's favorite places. Joyce was a wonderful mother and was always there when needed. She was a strong woman who loved her family. She was the rock and glue of the family that held it together for over 75 years. She will always be in the hearts of everyone who knew her and was loved and will be missed dearly by all of her family. In addition to her parents, and her husband Joe, she was preceded in death by her younger brother Joe "Sonny" Fluharty, her oldest son Joseph W. Koenig III, her Grandsons, Steven M. Koenig Jr and Jeffrey Scott Koenig Jr, and her second husband Harold McCormick. She is survived by her sister Diana Gould and her husband Richard, their children, Steven Koenig and his wife Linda, Richard Koenig and his wife Kimberly, Michael Koenig and his wife Sun Ha, Jeffrey Koenig, Kimberly Koenig and Lawrence Koenig; 21 grandchildren and 34 great grandchildren. A celebration of Joyce's life will be held at 5pm on Saturday, April 13, 2024 at St. Johns Family Funeral Home. A visitation, beginning at 4 pm will precede the service. St. Johns Family Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
