James Andrew Gomez

James Andrew "Jim" Gomez, age 57, of St. Augustine, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loved ones on September 15, 2022 at his residence in St. Augustine, FL. James was born on August 7, 1965 in Rochester, Pennsylvania. He grew up in Beaver, PA and was a 1984 graduate of Beaver Junior Senior High School. He made the Dean's List in College while studying to become a pilot. It was a dream of his to fly, but life dealt him a different hand. He had many jobs over time and worked for FedEx for several years. One of his favorite jobs was as a youth golf instructor in Pennsylvania - he loved teaching kids to love and appreciate the sport as much as he did! He moved to St. Augustine in 2005 for the beautiful weather (and no more snow!). In Florida, he established himself and started his own businesses in the pool and landscape industries, AquaX and Blue Dragon Maintenance. The last years of his life, James worked as the Manager of the Sand Dollar IV Condominium, where he oversaw everything from landscaping and pool maintenance to construction projects. His kindness, strong work ethic, and willingness to go above and beyond touched many of the residents' lives there and truly improved the condition of the property. He will be greatly missed by the friends he made during that time. February of 2018 James met the love of his life, Sharon. They were blessed to have spent the best years of their lives together, it was just cut far shorter than either of them imagined it would be. Even during the hard times, they were happy for every minute together and supported one another with total love and conviction. James had a great sense of humor and enjoyed anything on the water. He absolutely loved going on Caribbean Cruises, SCUBA diving with his daughters and kayaking. A die-hard Steelers Fan, he even taught Sharon's daughter, Sydney, to appreciate and cheer for his home team. He was a formidable dart player and was even on a dart league with his friends at the local AmVets. He also loved spending time with his family, and was fortunate enough to spend a beautiful last day with them all before he passed. James is survived by his love, Sharon L. Branch of Saint Augustine, sons, Timothy "TJ" Gomez (Jillian) of St. Augustine, FL; James Gomez of Atlanta GA; daughters, Cole Gomez and Morgan Gomez, both of Palm Coast, FL; his mother, Bonnie Gomez of Palm Coast, FL, sister, Lisa Pavelick of Palm Coast, FL; bonus daughters, Shelby Branch of Daytona, FL and Sydney Branch of Orlando, FL; grandchildren, Fiona and Deryck; nephew Christopher Pavelick currently of Washington state and his childhood best friend and brother from another mother, Billy Albert of Beaver, PA. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society. A celebration of James' life will be held at Bings Landing County Park in Palm Coast, Florida on Saturday, October 8th starting at 11:30 AM.
