Hubert Taylor Johnson

Hubert Taylor Johnson December 8, 1937 - December 2, 2013 Hubert Taylor "Johnny" Johnson, 75, of St. Augustine passed away on 12/02/2013 after a battle with leukemia. Mr. Johnson was born in West Palm Beach, FL and grew up in Niceville, FL. He graduated from Choctawhatchee High School in 1957. Upon completion of high school, he joined the United States Air Force as an aircraft mechanic. His first tour of duty was McGuire Air Force Base in New Jersey, were he met and married Arleen Fort. He rose to the rank of Senior Master Sargent, and took special pride in his work with the C-130 aircraft. He also served our country at The Department of Defense as an aircraft maintenance trainer and a quality assurance inspector on the E8-A JSTARS program during Operation Desert Storm, and a tour of duty in Saudi Arabia, where he supervised the construction of a border radar system. Always active in his community and church, he coached youth soccer and Little League Baseball, was active in community theater, participated in international mission trips, served on the administrative board and sang in the choir of his church. Funeral services will be held 11:30 a.m. Tuesday December 10, 2013 at St. Johns Family Funeral Home. Interment will follow at Jacksonville National Cemetery at 2:30 p.m. A visitation, beginning at 10:30 a.m., will precede the services. Flowers are gratefully declined and those wishing may make a contribution in his memory to Ronald McDonald Charities, 1110 North Emporia St., Wichita, KS 67214. He is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Arleen, his children (and their spouses) Marybeth Vaughan (Hank) of Roswell, GA, Pamela Silva of Spingfield, GA, Jennifer Bryndal (Greg) of St. Augustine, and Donley Johnson (Colleen) of St. Augustine; his sister Bernice Cottrill of Colville Washington; 13 Grandchildren and 2 Great-Grandchildren and his much loved dog, Rascal. Mr. Johnson was preceded in death by his daughter, Juli Dixon and granddaughter, Andrea Johnson. At the time of his death, Mr. Johnson was a member of the First United Methodist Church of St. Augustine. He was a former member of Trinity United Methodist Church in Ft. Walton Beach, FL and Mary Esther United Methodist in Mary Esther, FL. St. Johns Family Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
