Fredrick Leonard "Freddie" Singleton

Fredrick Leonard "Freddie" Singleton, Sr., age 75, passed away on September 1, 2023 at Flagler Hospital in St. Augustine. Fredrick was born on November 12, 1947 in Jacksonville, FL to parents James Leonard and Ida Lois (Hartley) Singleton. He grew up in Jacksonville working for his family's construction company, Singleton Construction, and was drafted into the US Army in 1967. He served with the 1st Infantry Division in the Vietnam War. Freddie was gravely injured in the line of duty and was awarded the Purple Heart. After a lengthy recovery, he was medically discharged from the Army and returned to Jacksonville. Freddie became reacquainted with childhood neighbor and classmate, Mary Lee Coleman, after returning from Vietnam. He had met the love of his life. Freddie and Mary married on March 5, 1969. Despite Freddie's injuries, he continued to work in Construction and he and Mary raised a family of four children together. The family moved to St. Augustine in the late 1970's. In later years, Freddie worked for Santa Cruz Construction Co. and most recently for Florida Telecom. Freddie loved fishing and hunting. If he wasn't in the boat he was in the woods. More than anything, Freddie loved his family and he will be deeply missed. He was preceded in death by his parents, James and Ida Singleton. He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Mary Lee Singleton of St. Augustine; daughters: Patricia Hanson and husband Dallas of Interlachen, Diane Karnes and husband Russell of Glen St. Mary, FL.; sons, Fredrick Singleton and spouse Paula Lynn, Robert Singleton and wife Cassidy; Sisters: Mary Masters of San Mateo, Rosalee Richardson of Georgia, Yvonne Garrett of Palatka; Brothers: Coy Singleton and his wife Linda of St. Augustine, Curtis Singleton and wife Mary of Jasper, Florida, Allen Singleton and his wife Tammy of Interlachen, FL; grandchildren: Stephanie, Dustin, Kaitlyn, Raymond, Hunter, Madalyn, Laine, Bob, Raylynn; and great grandchildren: Eli, Bailey, Summer and Dustin Jr. Services will be held at 10 am on Friday, September 8, 2023 at St. Johns Family Funeral Home with Rev. John Fletcher officiating. Interment will follow 1pm of Friday at Jacksonville National Cemetery. A visitation will be held from 5 to 7 pm on Thursday, September 7, 2023 at St. Johns Family Funeral Home.
