Fredrick Allen "Bucky" Powers

Fredrick Allen “Bucky” Powers, age 91, a lifelong resident of St. Augustine, passed away on December 27, 2020 at his home. Bucky was born on December 4, 1929 in St. Augustine, FL to Ralph Louis Powers and Francis Crimble Powers, graduating from Ketterlinus High School with the Class of 1948. He was a Korean War Veteran having served in the U. S. Air Force from 1951-1955, and was a longtime Plumber for Ginty Plumbing Company before becoming St. Johns County’s First Building Inspector. Bucky then ran for the St. Johns County Property Appraiser and won 3 consecutive terms before his retirement. He enjoyed many fun times with family and friends in their vacation home he built in 1984 in Linville Falls, NC. He was a member of the Cathedral Parish Church. Besides his many business accomplishments, he was always helping others build their homes or repairing anything they asked assistance for. He was a wonderful husband, father and grandfather. He will also remembered by his many nieces and nephews for all the things he taught them, including water skiing, snow skiing, fishing up and down the intercoastal and floundering in salt run among other wonderful memories. He was preceded in death by his parents; his son, Thomas Raymond “Tommy” Powers; sisters, Rena Forson, Blanche McQuaig and Gertrude Dekle; and his brother, Ralph L. Powers, Jr. He is survived by his devoted wife of 65 years Nancy Trask Powers; loving sons, Glen Powers (Rhonda) and Christopher Powers; grandchildren, Lindsey Powers, Jacob Powers and Alexis Powers; and many nieces and nephews and wonderful friends. The family will receive friends from 5 – 7 pm, with a Vigil service starting at 6 pm, on Wednesday, Dec. 30, 2020 at St. Johns Family Funeral Home, 385 SR 207, St. Augustine, FL. 32084. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 am on Thursday, Dec. 31, 2020 at the Cathedral Basilica of St. Augustine. Interment with military honors will follow at San Lorenzo Cemetery. The family requests that all participants please wear a mask and observe the Covid-19 social distancing guidance. In lieu of flowers the family requests memorial donations in his name to St. Joseph Academy, sjaweb.org or Wolfson Children’s Hospital, wolfsonchildrens.com. St. Johns Family Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
