Dr. Elizabeth C. Jones

Dr. Elizabeth C. Jones (Elizabeth Nerenberg Wilkinson), aged 94, died on April 8, 2021 in St. Augustine, Florida. Dr. Jones, a native Floridian, spent the majority of her career as a pediatrician in the Chicago area. Dr. Jones maintained her pediatric practice in Evanston, Illinois for close to thirty years, providing care to thousands of children. Dr. Jones also served as physician for The Cradle, the Illinois Children's Home and Aid Society, Evanston Hospital and as a Senior Attending Physician at Children's Memorial Hospital (now known as Lurie Children's Hospital). The first of her family to attend college, Dr. Jones earned her medical degree from the Tulane University School of Medicine in 1952, having graduated from the University of Georgia, where she obtained a Bachelor's of Science in Chemistry and Physics in 1948. Dr. Jones is survived by her children, Curt (Lori) Nerenberg; Amy (Holly Wynn) Nerenberg, Ellen (Anthony Valerio) Nerenberg and Laura (Tim Hanigan) Nerenberg, as well as her grandsons, Eric Nerenberg, Liam Hanigan and Aidan Hanigan, and her sisters, Laura Ruth Miller of Florida and Esther Adams of Nebraska. Dr. Jones, whose husbands Leo M. Nerenberg and Layman J. Wilkinson preceded her in death, leaves an extended grieving family for whom she provided the best example of a dedicated professional who successfully maintained a personal life rich with family, love, and friends. She will be greatly missed, and remembered with profound love, admiration, and appreciation. A Gathering of Family and Friends will be 2:00 PM – 4:00 PM, Monday, April 12, 2021 at St Johns Family Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, anyone wishing to honor the memory of Elizabeth C.
