Edna Cooper Martin

Edna Cooper Martin December 5, 1924 - April 22, 2016 Edna Martin beloved Mother, Grandmother, Great-Grandmother, Aunt, Friend and Mentor was born December 5, 1924 and made her peaceful transition on Earth Day, April 22, 2016 at her home in St Augustine, FL. Edna was preceded in death by husbands Robert Heckendorn, Willard Cooper and Frank Martin. Her blended family survivors are: daughters, Julia Heckendorn and partner Sandra Murphree, Elinor Hernandez; sons, Warren Heckendorn and Victoria, Tommy Cooper and Joan; Sherry and Jim Duncan, JoAnn Townsend, Julie Fitch ;grandchildren, Felicia Escobar, Rob Heckendorn, Johanna Funk, Karl Heckendorn, Marguerite Chernosky, Jennifer Stringer, Ross Cooper, Alan Cooper, Greg Casford, Jennifer Griffin, Matthew Casford, Debra Ramon , Beverly Scott, Joe Coker, Linda Frank, Bonnie Cole, David Townsend, Lori Townsend, Jessica and Joey Fitch and numerous Great and Great-Great Grandchildren, Nieces, and Nephews. Edna loved nature and wildlife and could identify birds just from their song. She encouraged everyone to do his or her best and that anything is possible. She finished high school in 1961 and became a LVN. She later became a Mary Kay Beauty Consultant and several of her recruits became Directors. Edna’s ready smile and encouragement blessed all who came in contact with her. She especially enjoyed the St Johns County Council on Aging Memory Enhancement class where she socialized and encouraged other members. She looked forward to the singing and the service dog visits and joyful bantering with staff member Bruce. A Memorial Service will be held in Bacliff, Texas. For over fifty years she belonged to the Bayshore Friends Church and after marrying and moving to Houston, she belonged to the Terrace United Methodist Church where she was very active. Special thanks to Community Home Health, especially Nurse Sarah and OT Mary Ann, to Haven Hospice especially, Chaplain Bill, Caregiver Charla, and Nurse Lori, and to Edna’s long time caregivers Linda Hobbs and Jovan Hodges.
